Ecobee Smart Thermostats Now Double as Home Security Hubs
Toronto based home automation maker Ecobee’s smart thermostats now double as home security hubs, combining camera live feeds, motion alerts, and energy savings in one seamless system.

Ecobee’s thermostats now let users not only regulate temperature, but also manage home safety through cameras sensors and a professional monitoring service.
The push turns a comfort device into a single control point that helps detect intrusion smoke or freezing conditions and even saves energy all at once. With this setup you do not need separate bulky control panels. Instead, the touchscreen thermostat or your phone becomes the control center.
Users with a subscription to Ecobee smart security can arm or disarm the system right from the thermostat display or the app. Adding an entry code makes it convenient for trusted visitors like dog walkers or family members to manage the system themselves.
Beyond burglary alerts, the system listens for smoke alarm sounds and warns of sharp temperature drops that could lead to burst pipes or fire. Ecobee built this using occupancy sensors. Indoor monitors detect motion, while door and window sensors alert you instantly if an entry point is opened.
And for those who already own Ecobee smart cameras or their doorbell camera, the live view feeds can appear on your thermostat so you can see who is at the front door without picking up your phone.

All of this happens without compromising energy performance. The smart thermostat still delivers energy savings through remote sensors and intelligent scheduling. It sends alerts for temperature anomalies and offers monthly energy reports so homeowners can monitor usage and boost efficiency.
