AWS and the NBA Announce New Partnership, Bringing New Cloud-Based States to Fans

Amazon Web Services (AWS) and the National Basketball Association (NBA) have announced a multi-year partnership to bring cloud-based stats and innovations to the game and fans.

As of the time of writing, AWS and the NBA are launching NBA Inside the Game. The basketball intelligence platform that processes billions of data points is powered by AWS’ cloud-based services, creating a more advanced experience while watching the game.

NBA Inside the Game provides AI-powered stats to fans to help them garner more information about the game, the teams playing, and the players on the court. The AI platform is available across all NBA digital channels, including the NBA App, NBA.com, and the league’s social platforms. It also introduces features for the live broadcast as well.

As part of the agreement, AWS is now the official cloud and cloud AI partner of the NBA and its affiliates. The partnership spans everything from the WNBA to the NBA G League, the Basketball Africa League, and NBA Take-Two Media.

“Partnering with AWS provides us with an opportunity to elevate the live game experience through innovation and offer fans a deeper understanding of the game of basketball for years to come,” said Ken DeGennaro, NBA executive vice president and Head of Media Operations and Technology, says in a press release. “AWS has a proven track record of delivering unique statistical insights and offering transformative experiences that will resonate with NBA fans around the world.”

Live stats will take advantage of the advanced stats platform, which is able to process player tracking data. This platform can read 29 bosy parts, contextualize is and generate real-time insights for fans. With this, fans will be able to see how well top players perform and how their performance is shaping up throughout the game.

Some of the other stats that will roll out throughout the 2025-2026 season include the ‘Defensive Box Score’, which shows individual defensive contributions made by players. ‘Shot Difficulty’ analyzes every aspect of each shot attempt. The ‘Player Finder’ tool uses AI to analyze player movements across thousands of games to identify common offensive strategies and historical context for commentators.

This new partnership is an extention of the NBA’s existing relationship with Amazon, which marks the start of Prime Video’s 11-year media rights agreement. 66 regular-season NBA games stream on Prime Video globally, starting this season.
