Perplexity Opens Comet Browser to Everyone Worldwide
Perplexity has officially made its AI-powered web browser Comet available to all Free, Pro, and Max users worldwide, ending its prior invitation-only or subscription-only restriction.

Comet blends conventional browsing with built-in AI capabilities, including a sidebar assistant that can summarize pages, act on user instructions, integrate with workflows, and more.
Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas expressed the company’s intent to make Comet a default browsing experience that supports smarter search and productivity tools. He framed the browser not as a temporary add-on but rather as a foundation for more intelligent interaction on the Web. The release coincides with the introduction of Comet Plus, a paid tier offering curated news content and publisher revenue sharing.
Under the new model, free users may face usage limits, while paying subscribers enjoy more seamless, expanded access and features. The goal is to invite more people to adopt the browser and thereby deepen the data and usage base for Perplexity’s AI systems. In addition, the company continues to talk with smartphone makers about preinstalling Comet on mobile devices.
Comet is built on top of the Chromium architecture, making it compatible with many Chrome extensions and existing browsing workflows. Its AI assistant is context aware—able to review the current page’s content, respond intelligently, summarize, or carry out multi-step tasks as requested.
The browser also supports features like tab management, email draft suggestions, calendar assistance, and content extraction. Privacy is a central concern: many user data points (including history and AI interactions) stay on the user’s device, and only limited data is shared when explicitly needed for AI action.

Going forward, Perplexity aims to extend Comet into mobile platforms and integrate deeper with device infrastructure. The company is in negotiations to have Comet preinstalled on Android and potentially iOS devices.
