Cloudfare Outage Currently Affecting X, OpenAI, Letterboxd and More

Cloudflare is currently experiencing a mass outage, affecting the online status of many websites and services. The multi-platform service went down at around 6 AM ET/3 AM PT, affecting sites like X (formerly Twitter) and more.
According to the official Cloudflare Status page, Cloudflare’s support started “experiencing issues” early this morning, affecting many websites and even some games. X, for instance, is unstable at the moment of writing. Other services like OpenAI and Letterboxd are met with a 500 error when attempting to access their respective website.
Some games like League of Legends are also experiencing issues, as made apparent by Downdetector. Ironically enough, Downdetector is experiencing issues as well, thanks to the Cloudflare outage. At times, it’s taken minutes for a page to load properly.
“Cloudflare is aware of and investigating an issue which potentially impacts multiple customers,” the company said in a recent update. “Further detail will be provided as more information becomes available.”
Cloudflare provides internet infrastructure services to companies using a Content Delivery Network. Using data centres around the world, websites are able to load quickly as they ping the closest one to the user, reducing load times.
Many websites leverage Cloudflare’s services and thus are affected by the outage. This is very reminiscent of when Amazon Web Services (AWS) went down last month, affecting many global sites and services. At the time, the AWS outage was so widespread, it even took down Fortnite for a moment in time.
If you’re experiencing issues getting onto a website and receive a message from Cloudflare, just wait patiently for the security systems to come back online.
