Apple Cuts Dozens of Sales Jobs in Unexpected Restructuring

Apple has quietly eliminated dozens of roles within its sales division in what executives describe as a targeted realignment rather than a broad workforce reduction, Bloomberg is reporting.

The move is believed to reflect a deliberate reshaping of how Apple connects and sells to large-scale customers such as businesses, schools, and government agencies. Affected positions include account managers responsible for enterprise, education, and public-sector clients, as well as staff who manage Apple’s briefing centers.

Among the hardest hit is a sales team dedicated to U.S. government accounts, which works with agencies including the Department of Defense and the Justice Department. That particular unit reportedly already has been under stress, following a 43-day federal shutdown and deeper budget cuts imposed by the so-called Department of Government Efficiency.

Apple confirmed the restructuring but did not disclose exactly how many roles are being eliminated. A spokesperson said the changes affect a “small number” of positions and emphasized that the company is still hiring, encouraging impacted employees to apply internally for open roles.

Employees who receive notices now have until January 20 to secure a new position within Apple. If they are not placed elsewhere by then they will be let go with a severance package.

While Apple describes the cuts as streamlining and removing overlapping responsibilities, some insiders interpret the move differently. Several of those laid off suggest the company is shifting more sales volume to third-party resellers, sometimes referred to as its “channel.” By routing more business through these partners, Apple may reduce the need for its own in-house sales staff, saving on the cost of salaries.

Interestingly, this financial realignment comes even as Apple is preparing for strong growth. Analysts estimate that Apple could generate nearly $140 billion in sales during its December quarter, which would surpass previous records.

Meanwhile, the company is reportedly planning to launch a lower-cost laptop early next year, a move that could bolster its appeal among business and education customers.
