‘Heated Rivalry’ Is Exploding on Spotify in Canada Ahead of the Finale

According to data shared by Spotify, listening around Heated Rivalry is surging in Canada ahead of the show’s finale later this week.

With the finale of the hit HBO series Heated Rivalry (available on Crave in Canada) arriving on December 26, Spotify says fans are increasingly turning to the platform to catch up on the original Canadian audiobook series that inspired the show. Physical copies of the books are sold out, and global listening to Nova Scotia author Rachel Reid’s romance catalogue has jumped more than 1,500 percent since the series debuted roughly 10 weeks ago.

The audiobooks are available on Spotify Premium as part of the platform’s monthly listening allowance for eligible subscribers. Three titles from the series are currently trending, with Game Changer ranked first, followed by Heated Rivalry and The Long Game.

Spotify is also seeing strong engagement with the official Heated Rivalry playlist, which has helped boost streams for several Canadian and Québécois artists featured in the show. Québec acts including Philippe B, Alfa Rococo, Malko, Jessica Charlie, and Unessential Oils saw sharp global increases in streams following episode airings. Streams of “Une journée parfaite” by Dumas rose more than 1,500 percent after appearing in the first episode.

Are you still confused as what the heck is Heated Rivalry? It’s a Canadian romance series that began as a popular hockey-themed audiobook Reid and has since been adapted into a hit TV show, following the intense rivalry and relationship between two professional hockey players.

Canadian artists have seen similar spikes. Harrison’s remix of “All the Things She Said” surged more than 139,000 percent globally, while Feist’s “My Moon My Man” climbed more than 1,500 percent and landed on major indie playlists in both Canada and the U.S. Streams of Wolf Parade’s “I’ll Believe in Anything” also increased by more than 2,650 percent after its episode appearance.

Um it didn’t begin as an audiobook, no. It was a novel first. The audiobook was subsequent to the novel.
