How to Lock Apps on Your iPhone [VIDEO]

Apple has shared another handy tutorial explaining how you can turn on Stolen Device Protection on your iPhone to lock your apps, and protect your accounts and personal information.

If you want to show someone something on your iPhone but want peace of mind that they can’t get into certain apps, you can lock or hide the apps. Locking an app requires Face ID, Touch ID, or your passcode to open it. Simply follow these steps:

  • Locate the app you want to lock.
  • Touch and hold the app icon until the quick actions menu opens.
  • Tap Require Face ID (or Touch ID or Passcode).

With Stolen Device Protection, you get an added layer of security when your iPhone is away from familiar locations, such as home or work. This helps protect your accounts and personal information in case your iPhone is ever stolen.

To turn on Stolen Device Protection, you must use two-factor authentication for your Apple Account and set up or enable the following on your iPhone:

  • Device passcode
  • Face ID or Touch ID
  • Location Services

You also need to have Find My turned on, and you can’t turn it off while Stolen Device Protection is enabled.

To turn on Stolen Device Protection in Settings:

  1. Go to Settings, then tap Face ID & Passcode.
  2. Enter your device passcode.
  3. Tap Stolen Device Protection, then turn Stolen Device Protection on or off.

When you restore from iCloud Backup or transfer directly from a previous iPhone to a new one, your device settings, including Stolen Device Protection, are also restored.
