How to Set Up and Use Apple Pay

With Apple Pay, you can easily and securely pay for items using your iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Mac, or Apple Vision Pro. Find out how you can add a debit or credit card, and then use it with Apple Pay.

To use Apple Pay, you need:

  • A compatible device1 with the latest version of iOS or iPadOS, watchOS, macOS, or visionOS.
  • A supported card from a participating card issuer.
  • An Apple Account signed in to your Apple device.
  • Face ID, Touch ID, Optic ID, or a passcode set on your device.

If you have an eligible card, you can tap your card on your iPhone to add it. Or, you can add your card manually. If you have any issues adding a card, contact your card issuer.

  1. In the Wallet app, tap the Add button.
    • Tap Cards Found For You to add a card that you used previously.
    • Tap Debit or Credit Card to add a new card.
  2. Tap Continue.
  3. To add your card:
    • Tap or hold your card close to your iPhone to add it.
    • To manually add your card, tap Enter Card Details Manually and follow the onscreen instructions.

You can now use your iPhone or Apple Watch to pay using Apple Pay in stores, restaurants, gas stations, taxis, or wherever you see the appropriate contactless payment symbols.

  1. To use your default card:
    • If your iPhone has Face ID, double-click the side button. If prompted, authenticate with Face ID or enter your passcode to open Apple Wallet.
    • If your iPhone has Touch ID, double-click the Home button.
  2. To use a different card, tap your default card to see your other cards. Tap a new card and authenticate.
  3. Hold the top of your iPhone near the contactless reader until Done and a checkmark appear on the display.
