CBC News Network and ICI RDI Join Prime Video Lineup in Canada

Amazon Prime Video is expanding its live television options in Canada by adding CBC News Network and ICI RDI to its platform. Starting today, subscribers can access 24-hour breaking news from the national public broadcaster directly through the Prime Video app.
Both the English-language CBC News Network and the French-language ICI RDI are available as individual add-on subscriptions for $4.99 per month each. To help viewers test the new services, Amazon is offering a 7-day free trial for both channels. Paying means you get zero ads and 24/7 live content.
“This is a great opportunity to broaden the reach of CBC News with even more Canadians on Prime Video,” said Doug Smith, Executive Vice-President, CBC, in a statement on Thursday.
The move marks a significant shift for CBC/Radio-Canada as it seeks to reach more cord-cutters and digital-first viewers. While ICI RDI remains the only 24/7 French-language news channel in Canada, both networks face increasing competition from global streaming news outlets. For the 2025-26 fiscal year, Ottawa has allocated $1.58 billion in funding for the public broadcaster.
“The addition of CBC News Network and ICI RDI represents a significant expansion of Prime Video’s content offering in Canada for English- and French-speaking customers. These subscriptions complement our extensive range of premium services, giving Canadians access to news and entertainment, all in one place,” added Mark Shopiro, Director of Prime Video, Canada.
The other streaming service the CBC has is its CBC Gem service, which is its library that has all TV shows. The CBC went to Federal Court to stop an order that would force it to reveal its Gem subscriber numbers.
