Wealthsimple Surprise: Users Expecting M4 MacBooks Get Free M5 Upgrades
Last fall Wealthsimple had an Apple promotion that offered up a free iPhone 17 series, iPhone Air, MacBook Air, MacBook Pro or Studio Display, if you were to transfer in net deposits to the Toronto-based fintech.
Now some people who registered and had their transfers stuck due to banks or whatever, have realized that their original promo devices have received an upgrade, particularly those with an M4 MacBook Air.
Some Wealthsimple users have explained their M4 MacBook Airs were upgraded to the latest M5 MacBook Air, which features a faster chip and now double the starting storage of 512GB. This was despite these users choosing an M4 MacBook Air as part of the promotion. The MacBook Air with M5 is also more expensive, starting at $1,499 compared to $1,379 for the M4 Air (education pricing is now $1,379).
It’s likely Apple just shipped out M5 MacBook Airs instead since the M4 can’t be purchased anymore.
But nonetheless, it’s a nice upgrade for Wealthsimple users that were expecting an M4 MacBook Air. Talk about a big surprise.
