How to Claim Up to $670 in the LastPass Canadian Class Action Settlement
Canadians whose personal information was compromised in the 2022 LastPass data breach can now apply for compensation through a newly launched class action settlement. LastPass is a popular password manager that works across all devices.
The legal action, filed in the Supreme Court of British Columbia, follows a breach that resulted in unauthorized access to customer vault backups, names, billing addresses, and phone numbers between August 2022 and March 2023.
On February 18, 2026, the Supreme Court of British Columbia granted final approval of the settlement, clearing the way for affected users to seek damages. The claims period officially began on March 25, 2026, and will remain open until the deadline on June 23, 2026, at 11:59 PM Pacific Time.
The settlement is open to all individuals and entities residing in Canada whose private information was accessed during the breach and who did not opt out by the December 2025 deadline. Eligible members can file for two different types of compensation depending on the nature of their losses.
Under Ordinary Claims, users can claim up to five hours of wasted time spent addressing the breach at a rate of $34.01 per hour, totaling $170.05. This specific claim does not require additional documentation. Furthermore, claimants can request up to $500 for out-of-pocket expenses incurred by May 31, 2023, provided they can supply supporting documents proving the costs were related to the breach. So that’s a max of about $670 in total possible claims.
A second category, Crypto Claims, allows users to seek damages for the loss of digital assets reasonably believed to be linked to the compromised vault data. Unlike the standard time-loss claims, those filing for crypto-asset losses must provide thorough documentation and certification to be considered valid by the claims administrator.
All claim forms must be submitted electronically or postmarked by 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time on June 23, 2026, to be eligible for a payout. All successful claims will be issued in Canadian currency, with an option for payment through Interac e-Transfer or cheque.
