Apple’s 50th Anniversary Tour Continues in D.C., Shanghai, and Beyond

As Apple approaches its official 50th birthday on April 1, 2026, the company is turning its retail stores across Washington D.C., Mexico City, Shanghai, Tokyo, and beyond into global stages for creativity (via MacRumors).

In Washington, D.C., Apple’s Carnegie Library store hosted a deeply moving session focused on the power of inclusive design. The event featured Oscar-winning actor Troy Kotsur, known for his groundbreaking role in the Apple TV+ film CODA, and Roberta Cordano, the president of Gallaudet University.

Alongside Apple’s accessibility chief Sarah Herrlinger, the panel discussed how technology serves as a bridge for the Deaf and hard-of-hearing communities. The Carnegie Library, a building Apple meticulously restored to its former glory, provided a symbolic backdrop for a conversation about legacy and the future of human connection.

While D.C. focused on heritage, Tokyo looked firmly toward the future of digital entertainment. At the Apple Omotesando store, the atmosphere shifted from a retail space to a concert hall. The star of the show was Mori Calliope, a world-famous virtual YouTuber (VTuber) and singer.

Appearing live on massive in-store screens, Calliope performed tracks from her latest album, Disasterpiece. The event highlighted how Apple’s ecosystem, specifically tools like Logic Pro, has empowered a new generation of “virtual” artists to reach global audiences. Calliope even shared a nostalgic moment with the crowd, recalling how her first Apple device was a red iPod nano that carried her through her early musical journey.

These events are part of a massive worldwide circuit that kicked off earlier this month with a surprise Alicia Keys concert at New York’s Grand Central Terminal. Since then, Apple has hopped across continents:

  • Shanghai: A circular catwalk was constructed outside the Jing’an store for a unique Shanghai Fashion Week crossover.
  • London: Folk-rock legends Mumford & Sons performed at the Battersea Power Station location.
  • Mexico City: Filmmakers and actors gathered at Apple Antara to discuss the rise of local storytelling on a global scale.

The tour isn’t over just yet. One of the final scheduled stops is set for Mumbai, India, on March 29 at the Apple BKC store.
