Google Search Adds AI Dining Agent to Help Canadians Book Tables
Google is rolling out new AI capabilities in Canada today that aim to simplify how people find and book restaurant reservations. The update to AI Mode in Google Search allows users to find available tables across the country by describing exactly what they want in plain English.
The new feature functions as a digital dining agent. Instead of checking various individual booking apps or calling multiple restaurants, you can enter a specific request like finding a table for four at a Vancouver sushi spot for a Friday evening. The AI then scans different platforms and restaurant sites simultaneously to check real-time availability.
Google mentions typing something like this into AI Mode: “Find a table for four at an Aburi sushi place in Vancouver for Friday at 6 p.m.”
Once the search is complete, the tool provides a list of options that match your criteria. You can then finalize the reservation through integrated partners such as OpenTable and Libro. This update is designed to cut down on the time spent switching between tabs and apps while trying to coordinate a night out.
By handling the logistical search process, the tool focuses on finding spots that meet specific needs, whether that is a vegan-friendly location in Toronto or a specific cuisine in a local neighbourhood. You get actionable search results where you just need to click to finish your reservation, saving you time.
