Google Gemini Can Now See Your Gmail and Photos in Canada: Here’s How

Google is officially bringing Personal Intelligence to the Gemini app in Canada, starting with paid subscribers today before a wider rollout to all users.

The update allows the AI to connect across a user’s Google ecosystem, including Gmail, Photos, Search, and YouTube history. While Gemini previously had the ability to pull data from these sources, the new Personal Intelligence capability enables the AI to reason across that data to provide proactive suggestions.

For example, a user asking for tire recommendations might receive specific advice based on the car they own and their recent driving habits found in their history, without having to provide those details manually. This is a huge time saver.

Availability and Rollout

The feature is launching today, April 14, for Google AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra subscribers in Canada. Google expects to expand the feature to free users in the coming weeks, said the company in an email to iPhone in Canada. Once active, the service works across the web, Android, and iOS.

Currently, the feature is limited to personal Google accounts. Workspace business, enterprise, and education users do not have access yet.

To address privacy concerns, the feature is turned off by default. Users must manually opt in and choose which specific apps they want to connect. Google says the AI will not personalize every response, only using the data when it determines it would be helpful for the specific query.

Users can manage or delete their chat history at any time. If a specific response feels too personal or inaccurate, there are controls to try again without personalization or provide feedback via a thumbs down button.

This expansion to Canada comes after Personal Intelligence first launched in January, but only for U.S. customers.
