X and Wealthsimple Launch One-Tap Stock Trading in Canada

A leak from last month suggesting that X would integrate stock trading powered by Wealthsimple has officially come true. While many initially doubted the rumours, the discovery by code sleuth Aaron proved to be solid as the feature went live for Canadian users.

Wealthsimple confirmed the partnership on April 14, introducing Smart Cashtags for Canadian investors. Moving forward, any ticker symbol tapped on the X platform will route Canadian users directly to the Wealthsimple app to execute a trade. The goal of the integration is to bridge the gap between financial conversations and order entries with a single tap.

This is a smart move by Wealthsimple to integrate with X as it will definitely result in more users for the Toronto-based fintech.

Nikita Bier, a product lead at X, noted that the platform has always served as a primary source of financial news and real-time data for traders. This new Cashtags feature is launching on iPhone for users in Canada and the United States, bringing live financial charts and data directly into the timeline.

The system works by automatically suggesting matching stocks or crypto tokens when a user posts or searches for a cashtag or contract address. Tapping a Cashtag now allows users to see a price chart and a curated feed of relevant posts without leaving the X app. It’s a pretty slick integration.

X has stated that these enhanced Cashtags are the first step in a broader commitment to becoming the primary destination for the global finance and crypto communities.

Bier added that support for X on the web, Android and expansion globally will be “coming very soon.” The integration was developed by a team of five people, four from X and one staffer from xAI.
