Google Introduces Workspace Intelligence
At the recent Google Cloud Next ’26 conference, Google has announced Workspace Intelligence, a new AI system that uses Gemini to automate tasks, build presentations, and organize projects across all Workspace apps.
Instead of just helping you write an email or format a table, the AI now understands the deeper context of your projects across Gmail, Docs, Drive, and Chat.
The core of this update is a new semantic layer that connects all your data. This allows Gemini to act as a true agent that can work autonomously. For example, Google Chat now lets you simply tell the AI to “schedule a meeting for the Project X team” or “find the latest budget file.” Gemini then executes the task without you having to open a single calendar or folder.
Google is also introducing Sheets canvas. This turns a standard spreadsheet into a flexible dashboard that can pull live data from third-party tools like Salesforce and HubSpot. It allows users to build mini-applications or heat maps using simple natural-language commands.
One of the most practical additions is Drive Projects. This feature allows teams to group relevant files and emails into a single hub. By doing this, you give Gemini a clear boundary of knowledge for a specific project. You can then ask Gemini questions like, “What were the three main concerns mentioned in the latest feedback?” and it will provide an answer with citations from the documents within that project.
Google Vids, the AI video editor for work, is getting a significant upgrade with “digital avatars.” These avatars can be customized with company logos and now support 24 different languages. This makes it possible for teams to create high-quality training or announcement videos in minutes without needing a production studio or a camera crew.
Lastly, with AI agents becoming more autonomous, Google has launched AI Control Centers. These tools allow administrators to monitor how AI agents interact with company data.
