Asus Announces ROG Xbox Ally X20 Handheld With OLED and TMR Sticks

During Computex 2026, Asus announced the new ROG Xbox Ally X20 bundle, featuring two highly requested features: an OLED display and TMR joysticks. The new handheld is shipping with a pair of ROG XREAL R1 glasses.
The ROG Xbox Ally X20 is part of a celebration bundle, as revealed by Asus. The new handheld features an upgraded 7.4-inch ROG Nebula HDR OLED display. It supports 120Hz with FreeSync Premium Pro and provides a max brightness of 1,400 nits HDR with VESA Display HDR True Black 1000 and Dolby Vision. As someone who adores the ROG Xbox Ally, hearing that an OLED model has been developed is exactly what I’ve been hoping for.
Under the hood, it continues to support the AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme of the ROG Xbox Ally X alongside 24GB of LPDDR5X-8000 memory, and a 1TB SSD. It also carries over the 80Wh battery from last year’s handheld. I use my ROG Xbox Ally X a ton, and performance-wise, the device sings when playing many large games like Resident Evil Requiem or Cyberpunk 2077.
The other major upgrade arriving for the ROG Xbox Ally X20 is full-sized TMR joysticks. Rather than traditional sticks, which historically wear down over time and cause stick drift, TMR sticks use a contactless magnetic sensor system. This technology reduces drift and detects movement far better than traditional sticks or even Hall-effect sensors, which are already superior to those found in many contemporary controllers.
Asus is pairing the TMR sticks with improved face buttons that are more flush with the chassis and an LED-lit Xbox button. The D-pad also rotates to switch between a 4-way layout, preferred for platformers, and a more tactile 8-way layout, best for fighting games. The bumpers have also been refined for better feedback. Asus has removed its ‘Library’ button from the controller. It’s replaced by a new ‘Action’ button that lets you take screenshots with a single press or a video clip with a long press.
To complement the new ROG Xbox Ally X20, Asus has designed a transparent shell for the device. It features gold accents that run across the entire device. I’m personally a major sucker for transparent hardware so I’m pretty happy with the new design. Users also get access to a Thunderbolt 4 port, USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 port, DisplayPort 2.1 and a microSD card reader that is supposedly “faster.”
Now comes the caveat of the ROG Xbox Ally X20 announcement. It’s being sold as a bundle, as mentioned. It ships with a pair of ROG XREAL R1 Edition 20 Gaming AR glasses, featuring the same black-and-gold design as the handheld. The glasses can project a 171-inch virtual screen at a distance of 4 meters. This covers 95 percent of your peripherals while wearing the glasses. The device supports up to 240Hz with a 0.01ms response time. With USB-C connectivity, you can plug the XREAL R1 glasses into the ROG Xbox Ally X20, turning your field of vision into a large playing space.
Canadian pricing and availability of the ROG Xbox Ally X20 bundle haven’t been announced yet. In Canada, the ROG Xbox Ally X is available for $1,499. The bundle is expected to ship this holiday so I expect we’ll hear more about pricing and availability later this summer.
