Sync Your Strava Workouts with Claude

Strava is taking a major leap into the world of AI with the release of its new Model Context Protocol (MCP) connector. This tool allows users to sync their training data to Anthropic Claude and build their own AI fitness coaches.

Once the connector is set up, a user can ask an AI assistant specific questions about their performance. Instead of just seeing a list of recent activities, you could ask, “How has my running cadence changed over the last six months?” or “Based on my recent cycling power data, what should my target be for my next race?” The AI can then access the relevant data points directly from your Strava account to provide a tailored answer.

This goes beyond simple statistics. Because the AI understands context, it can help identify why you might be feeling fatigued or suggest when it is time to take a rest day based on your training load.

The Model Context Protocol acts as a universal translator. It allows different software tools to “speak” the same language. For a Strava user, this means your AI can see your recent elevation gains, your heart rate zones, and your personal bests to provide a summary that feels human.

Imagine finishing a heavy week of training and feeling more exhausted than usual. With this integration, you could ask an AI assistant to look at your Strava logs and compare your current intensity to your training history. The AI might notice that your recovery time has been shorter than usual or that you’ve increased your weekly mileage too quickly.

This isn’t just about elite athletes. Casual walkers and weekend hikers can use the tool to find patterns in their activity. You could ask, “What is the best time of day for my fastest walks?” or “How does the weather affect my pace based on my last twenty activities?” The AI provides specific details rather than general advice.

This move also helps developers. It is now much easier for creators to build helpful fitness tools that integrate with Strava without needing to build a custom system from scratch every time.
