Canadian Tesla Owners Can Get $75 Back This Summer Just for Charging at Home
Canadian EV rewards platform, Toronto-based WattsApp (not to be confused with WhatsApp) has hit 5 million charging points, and it’s marking the milestone with a promotion that started on June 1 (via Tesla North).
The new Summer Supercharging Credit promo is running through August. EV owners who are connected to the platform with a charger can get $25 CAD back each month, totalling up to $75 over the summer. To claim it, you select your eligible charging sessions in the Supercharging Dashboard and the credit gets sent out via e-Transfer at the end of each month. You need to own both the vehicle and the charger linked to your WattsApp profile to qualify.
Also, WattsApp has bumped its referral reward from 100 points to 500 points per successful sign-up, a fivefold jump with no cap on how many referrals you can make. So start referring your friends and family to the program.
You link your Tesla account to the platform through official APIs. If you have a Gen 3 Wall Connector or Universal Wall Connector, the app tracks your energy usage automatically. You earn 3 points for every kilowatt-hour charged, and every 100 points works out to one dollar. For drivers who charge regularly, that can add up to hundreds of dollars a year, which goes a long way toward offsetting your electricity bill. “In future rollouts, you will be able to connect any internet-connected charger,” explains WattsApp.
Under Canada’s Clean Fuel Regulations, individual homeowners can’t register or generate carbon credits on their own. Residential EV charging has to go through a registered Charging Network Operator, so you need a platform like WattsApp to do it on your behalf.
