Hands-On: BLUETTI Apex 300 + SORA 500 Review
BLUETTI sent us the Apex 300 paired with the SORA 500 solar panel to put through its paces, and after a few weeks of actually using it, the biggest thing that stood out is just how versatile this setup is.
The Apex 300 is a 2,764.8Wh portable power station that puts out up to 3,840W, and it can scale way past that if you start stacking extra batteries. But honestly, most people aren’t going to need to think about the spec sheet much, because what makes it genuinely useful is how many ways you can get power in and out of it.
Solar charging that actually works
We hooked up the SORA 500 panel to test the solar charging, and it pulled in 401W during our test, which is a bit under the panel’s 500W rating. That’s normal though. Solar output fluctuates with sun angle, cloud cover, and panel placement, so seeing something in the 400W range on a real rooftop or backyard setup instead of a lab number isn’t a knock against it. At that rate, the Apex 300 was on track to fully recharge in about 5.3 hours. Free power from the sun? Why not.
While the SORA 500 panel actually folds up pretty compactly, standing it up is a bit flimsy at first.
More ways to charge than you’ll know what to do with
Beyond solar, the Apex 300 can take a charge from a wall outlet, your car’s cigarette lighter or alternator, a generator, an EV charger, or even an RV park hookup. You can also combine AC and solar charging at the same time if you want to top up faster. There’s a Turbo mode that gets you to 80 percent in around 45 minutes if you’re in a hurry, or a Silent mode if you want to charge quietly at night without it sounding like a hair dryer next to your bed.
120V and 240V at the same time
One of the more practical features for Canadian homes is that the Apex 300 runs 120V and 240V simultaneously. That means you can run something heavy like a washing machine on 240V while still powering your phone charger or WiFi router on a regular 120V outlet. No switching back and forth, no picking one or the other.
Where this thing actually shines
This is where the Apex 300 really sells itself. Got a sump pump that needs to keep running during a power outage? No need for a generator. Heading to the cottage and want backup power without dragging a gas generator along? It’s quiet, it’s clean, and it just works.
I’ve also got a friend starting up a mobile pizza trailer business, and I showed him the Apex 300. He’s planning to run his on-demand hot water, fridges, and other equipment off it instead of a loud diesel generator parked outside his food truck. That’s honestly the kind of use case that shows how flexible this thing really is. The flexibility of the Apex 300 means he can add to his system over time based on his needs.
The bottom line
You never think you need backup power until the power actually goes out. That’s when having something like the Apex 300 sitting in your garage turns into the ultimate convenience. Between solar charging, AC charging, car charging, generator charging, and the ability to expand with extra batteries and accessories down the line, it’s built to grow with whatever you need it for. If you live in an area prone to power outages, live off-grid, or travel in an RV, this is the kind of setup worth considering.
Besides the SORA 500 solar panel being a bit flimsy to set up, and the Apex 300 being on the heavier side at about 84 pounds, it’s a pretty impressive power station to have.
The Apex 300 + SORA 500 bundle is priced at $2,799.00 CAD as part of BLUETTI’s current sale, and you can knock off an extra 5% with code iphone5off.
