HTC Open to Negotiating with Apple Over Patent Lawsuit

HTC’s CFO spoke with Bloomberg today and openly talked about negotiating with Apple over their latest patent dispute. The two patents in question relate to data detection and data transmission.

“We have to sit down and figure it out,” Winston Yung, chief financial officer of the Taoyuan, Taiwan-based company, said by phone today. “We’re open to having discussions.”

“We are open to all sorts of solutions, as long as the solution and the terms are fair and reasonable,” Yung said. “On and off we’ve had discussions with Apple, even before the initial determination came out.”

Don’t these words sound like that of a desperate man? It’s probably music to Apple’s ears. You won’t hear words like these coming from Samsung anytime soon.

Just last week the ITC determined HTC infringed on two of Apple’s patents, leaving the future of their Android models up in the air, and sending HTC stock price to drop. According to one securities firm, HTC could pay royalty fees up to $3 per device to Apple.
