Update 1: According to SFWeekly, and their conversations with the San Francisco Police Department, no records have been found of this investigation. Until we hear some more evidence about the whereabouts of this device, or word from Apple…this story could be false.

CNET, an Apple employee has once again lost an iPhone prototype in a bar:
The errant iPhone, which went missing in San Francisco’s Mission district in late July, sparked a scramble by Apple security to recover the device over the next few days, according to a source familiar with the investigation.
The prototype was lost at Cava 22, and days after Apple contacted San Francisco police, asking for their assistance in returning the ‘priceless’ device. Apple eventually traced the phone to a home in the Bernal Heights neighbourhood. Alongside police, Apple investigators spoke with man who claimed to be at the bar the phone was lost. The house was given permission to be searched but nothing was found.
If this story is true, could we expect another massive leak of the next-generation iPhone, like we witnessed last year when Gizmodo purchased the iPhone 4 prototype? Keep your eyes peeled on Craigslist and eBay, folks!

Um… nothing is “taking so long,” because Apple has never committed to any regular release schedule for its phones, nor has it even hinted that anything new is coming. All of this shit is just rumours.
