Review: BudgetGadgets Leather Wallet Case for iPhone

Today I have a new case from my new source of low priced accessories. It is a Leather Wallet Case from BudgetGadgets and it combines form and function with a low price.

Leather Wallet Case from BudgetGadgets

The Leather Wallet case from BudgetGadgets is a leather pouch-type case with very fine black stitching along the outside edges. Once you put your iPhone inside, your device is completely covered by the case on all sides except for the top. This does mean that in order to get to your iPhone, you must take the device out of the case entirely before being able to use it.

Unlike traditional pouch cases, this case has a thin strap that you use to pull the iPhone out of the case. For example, before you put the iPhone in, the strap is attached on the inside of the case and hangs on the outside for easy access. Once you put your iPhone in, the iPhone pushes down on the strap inside the case and this in turn shortens the strap on the outside.

Once the iPhone is fully inside, the outside strap ends up being a small leather piece that is quite unobtrusive. To get the iPhone out, simply pull on the exposed end of the strap and the iPhone slowly slides out.

Due to the nature of the case being a very hard and inflexible leather, it is difficult to retrieve your iPhone using any other method except for the strap. While this is not a bad thing, some people may find the strap to be an eye-sore, especially when it is fully exposed.

The one thing I did notice with the case that I like a lot is that it is compatible with the iPhone, iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS. Each of the iPhones fit very nicely inside and are easily retrievable using the case strap.

The only aspect of the case that really bothers me is right on the front is slapped a giant Apple logo (slightly different than the real one, but similar enough to notice) and the word “iPhone” (seen above). No matter how good the case is, that visual branding is too much for me. I found it very tacky and came to the conclusion that the case would be much better without it. But that is not to say that other people will not like it.

Overall, the Leather Wallet Case provides a nice blend of form and function which makes this case a good protection solution for any of your iPhone devices. The leather is a nice fashion touch and the price is simply unbeatable, but that large faux-Apple logo/iPhone branding really turns me away from the case.

The BudgetGadgets Leather Wallet Case is scored a 3 out of 5.
