Review: BudgetGadgets Leather Wallet Case for iPhone

Share:

Today I have a new case from my new source of low priced accessories. It is a Leather Wallet Case from BudgetGadgets and it combines form and function with a low price.

Leather Wallet Case from BudgetGadgets

The Leather Wallet case from BudgetGadgets is a leather pouch-type case with very fine black stitching along the outside edges. Once you put your iPhone inside, your device is completely covered by the case on all sides except for the top. This does mean that in order to get to your iPhone, you must take the device out of the case entirely before being able to use it.

Unlike traditional pouch cases, this case has a thin strap that you use to pull the iPhone out of the case. For example, before you put the iPhone in, the strap is attached on the inside of the case and hangs on the outside for easy access. Once you put your iPhone in, the iPhone pushes down on the strap inside the case and this in turn shortens the strap on the outside.

Once the iPhone is fully inside, the outside strap ends up being a small leather piece that is quite unobtrusive. To get the iPhone out, simply pull on the exposed end of the strap and the iPhone slowly slides out.

Due to the nature of the case being a very hard and inflexible leather, it is difficult to retrieve your iPhone using any other method except for the strap. While this is not a bad thing, some people may find the strap to be an eye-sore, especially when it is fully exposed.

The one thing I did notice with the case that I like a lot is that it is compatible with the iPhone, iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS. Each of the iPhones fit very nicely inside and are easily retrievable using the case strap.

The only aspect of the case that really bothers me is right on the front is slapped a giant Apple logo (slightly different than the real one, but similar enough to notice) and the word “iPhone” (seen above). No matter how good the case is, that visual branding is too much for me. I found it very tacky and came to the conclusion that the case would be much better without it. But that is not to say that other people will not like it.

Overall, the Leather Wallet Case provides a nice blend of form and function which makes this case a good protection solution for any of your iPhone devices. The leather is a nice fashion touch and the price is simply unbeatable, but that large faux-Apple logo/iPhone branding really turns me away from the case.

The BudgetGadgets Leather Wallet Case is scored a 3 out of 5.

currently i only have a screen protector to cover my iphone, having this case would be great because my iphone gets thrown around alot! thanks!

  • Dusty

Invisible Shield as always! 🙂 I am using a cheap no name case that I bought from the mall and I needed it to be a full case like this to protect all around the iPhone due to my job and hobbies. Well the word cheap no name does explain lots and its totally falling apart now and peeling lol So this case would be great to replace it!

Have a case you would like to recommend or write a review, visit the forums and explain away!

With no protective case of any kind I'm starting to feel one might be handy. Was second in line for the iPhone on release day and now over a year later only 2 small scratches can be found but also a crack near the silent switch with a small piece of plastic missing (can always see the “silenced” dot). Let's just say I'm starting to feel the need for a case of some kind.

  • What, if anything, do you currently use to protect your iPhone?

Currently I use a Case Logic generic candy-bar phone case, which has lasted longer and works much better than the iphone-specific case I bought from AT&T when I was in the States. But I can always use another one. 🙂

And sorry if I sound coufused, but do comment entries have to be here or in the forums?

I use the invisible shield, but wouldn't mind an actual case.

  • deusex

Wouldn't mind one of these, seems like I drop my phone a lot and I find the traditional protectors too bulky…

  • lello91

    InvisibleShield!

  • Chris

None. I spent all of my money on the iPhone and am waiting to get paid before I can afford to get anything. Here's to hoping this will save me the money!

  • g_ram

I use the invisible Shield of course, teamed up with the wave case. I'm happy with the combo, just in case I drop it.

  • bluevektor

Currently I use a Switcheasy Rebel Serpent (black) with a screen protector. I have been very happy with the case, but I would like some other cases for some variety.

  • Markh
