Rogers to Launch LTE Network in Toronto on September 28th

Share:

Rogers today announced they will launch their LTE network in Toronto on September 28th. LTE is the next-generation wireless network that has already launched in Ottawa this July. Incredible mobile speeds are coming our way with LTE:

Later this year, Rogers will offer an LTE device that will be capable of maximum theoretical download speeds of up to 100 Mbps on the Rogers LTE network.

Is Rogers trying to tell us something, but they can’t? The first thing that comes to mind is an LTE-capable iPhone 5. A previous rumour linked Telus to launch the iPhone 5 on October 1st.

However, it most likely is referring to an upcoming Rocketstick, possibly manufactured by Huawei, due to launch in November, according to our sources.

Other upcoming LTE devices include:

…the Samsung Galaxy S II LTE smartphone; the LTE Rocket mobile hotspot (Sierra Wireless AirCard 754S); Rogers LTE Rocket stick (now available in Ottawa); an LTE tablet from a leading manufacturer; and the previously announced HTC smartphone.

Who’s excited for LTE in Toronto?

Pshhh… I’m guessing its around the same runtime. Its probably more efficient then 3G.

I am but I’m scared battery consumption is gonna suck compared to 3G. Doesn’t matter though I’m keeping my iPhone till they come out with an iPhone with LTE support (I don’t think it will be the 5/4S).

The battery life on 4G devices is just awful. It has been a big problem with LTE devices that have rolled out in the US. Rogers also charges more for LTE data use than 3G use.

Rogers already has LTE data plans in Ottawa, and yes, they’re more expensive than 3G.
