Lately a lot of you have taken the plunge to either 1.1.3 or 1.1.4 firmware, thanks to my post on how to upgrade from 1.1.1 to 1.1.4 with ZiPhone 2.5c. Anyways, ever since daylight savings time hit and prior to that, some people have run into a problem with their SMS timestamps. The time is a few hours behind and does not show up properly. How to fix this problem? Read on!

The following solution was posted by user LDN2012 on HowardForums. It has worked successfully for users who tried it out so I’m going to pass this along to you fine folks (especially those who have been emailing me asking about a fix!).

How to Fix the iPhone Incorrect Timestamp Issue on 1.1.3 and 1.1.4 firmware

  1. Launch Installer. Click on Sources. Click Edit. Click Add.
  2. Type in http://www.iphones.ru/r …click OK. Refresh Sources.
  3. Click on the Install tab. Go to the category iPhone.RU.
  4. Install the SMS Timefix (the description is not in English, but it will work!)
  5. Reply back here to let us know if it worked or not. :)

Again, you are on your own whenever you’re trying these fixes and such, since the Source URL is from an untrusted source. However, users on this thread have had success, so it looks pretty positive that it will fix your SMS timestamp issue. Let us know if it works! =)

It didn't work for me... still off by 4 hours... hmmmmm

I have an unlocked version of the iPhone (Canada) version 1.1.3.
This problem is indeed annoying. I have following the steps suggested about the Sources and it installs the source properly. However, at the Install stage, the iPhone.RU was no where to be found. I re-booted the iPhone, but still no sign of it. The Source http://www.iphones.ru/r is there though. So not sure where to find it.

As others suggested, I also play with turning the automatic time on & off, and that did nothing.

I'm in Toronto and my SMS time stamp is always 4 hours earlier for people (even Google automatic response) who respond to me.

Worked perfect on firmware 1.1.4. Thanks alot!

all you need to do is:
    1. set your date and time set automatically "off".
    2. choose "Reykjavik, Iceland" as your timezone.
    3. select set date and time to the appropriate time.
    Done.

Im on fido in canada with 1.1.4, and problem I am having is I can send SMS text but I don't seam to recieve :( tried restore and all that but no luck :( biggest downside to my phone...

I had the same problem (disappearing SMS) when I installed the time fix on my jailbroken 1.1.3. Have upgraded to 1.1.4 now with iPlus 2.0b and all seems fine now (without the sms time fix)
  • Fubar
It works perfectly for messages from people who are in my SMS history already, but new users (i.e. if Facebook sends me a message) are not shown. Does this happen to anyone else?

    Thanks for the recognition!

I just updated to 1.1.4 and unlocked with iPlus it fixed the timestamp problem and everything on my phone works perfectly!
  • I will definitely try this out when I get back home. This bug has been bugging me for some time now. I am glad to hear a lot of users have worked out for them.

I installed this app and at first everything was working great! after about 4 days i started only being able to get a preview if i didnt have a conversation already started with the person and when i replied it wouldnt show the message in the conversation box. I used another phone to find out my problem. turns out that this app was the problem after uninstalling it, it showed my messages when i would receive one but with the time 4 hours behind yet again, i reinstalled and same problem message was not visible.

I think i'll just update to 1.1.4 with iplus 2.0b it seems to do the job

Kidding, but you should be thinking twice no matter what you read on the internetz!

so i removed it from installer and reset my time to iceland and everything appears to be working. *phew*

can't trust everything on this site.

I have this same problem with my 1.1.1 phone, how do I fix it? I installed an sms patch a while back that gave me voicemail notification, etc, but the timestamp issue recently appeared, im with rogers in Edmonton. Im not into taking the risk of updating my phone firmware as the phone works great otherwise..
  • I just installed this to fix my own SMS timestamp woes...so far so good. To uninstall, just go through Installer again.
  • T
actually i don't think you should install it. when someone sends me an SMS and i don't have a conversation with them already started, you can't see the SMS message, it deletes or isn't visible once you go into your messages. so you only see the preview and that's it. that's my experience and i'm running 1.1.3.

how can i remove this and fix any errors? i uninstalled it but what else can i do to remove it completely, like any preference files or anything.
  • T
how would you uninstall this if you encountered a problem?
  • Adam
    Ethan,

I did not have this problem. Try to install the fix again and hopefully it works. Let us know!
  • Ethan
i added this application and received a text msg right away. when i replied to it the sending message bar did not complete and i had to turn off my phone. i dont know if it is the program or if i am having bad luck with sources. i immediately deleted it and the the msg bar changed to error sending msg and allowed me to text again.(without the program)

I think I'll try this, although I don't pay much attention to the timestamps in my texts. However I have a much more annoying problem. My clock is one hour slow. I've set the time zone to my city (Calgary), selected Set Automatically, and used the phone (call out, call phone, wireless) but it won't reset to the correct time. Anyone have any ideas? It was working fine until I inadvertently powered the phone down with the sleep/wake button. Running 1.1.3
  • Samer
I second that.. just turn the Set Automatically option OFF. Mine went back to correct time when I changed that.
  • I have the same problem here in Vancouver. I just changed "Set Automatically" to OFF and changed the time myself. I think this is a Rogers problem for lots of people, not just the iPhone, according to other forums.
  • wrinkly
haha awesome...it works like a charm! thanks iphone fan with the solid info as always.
  • T
i took myself off of iceland time and i'll let you know if it works!
there's a new installer.app update, what is included in it and should i install it?
  • I am on version 3.01...what does your version update say?
  • Wayne
Works perfectly. Saw it yesterday morning and installed. No problems all day and I text about 100x per.
  • Thanks for letting us know! :)
  • Fun Bobby
I would also like to hear if this works for anyone. I don't SMS very much, so haven't noticed if I am experiencing the problem or not.
  • Adam Greenspoon
Well, I just tried it. I'm off to work now and I'll let you know if it works when I get back!
  • Adam Greenspoon
Just to let you guys know it worked fine for me! Still don't get any voicemail notifications at all though :(

    Thanks iPhone Fan!
