I’ve just been on the phone with a Fido supervisor… He told me that it was the first time that somebody complained about the difference between the two offers. We need to keep calling them if we want a change in that dumb policy. 100$ rebate on a 799$ phone… Wow!!!

After 12 years and thousands of dollars to Fido, I’m insulted!!

i got my 3g in aug.08 . I called rogers and was offered the 199 upgrade with a one year contract extension. now Im thinking is the 200mhz faster processor,double the ram, the video feature and the compass worth 200 buck and another year with rogers given that bell and telus are building a gsm network to compete with rogers . basically does someone have a 3gs and feels like its so much faster and more usefull than their “old” 3g was??

Well at least your a 3G owner, I have the razr from them and they told me I have to wait till aug 1, 2010 to upgrade. That’s the 2.5 yr mark on my contract. I really hope more GSM competition comes soon as fido isn’t worth committing 3 yrs too.

I have never done a hardware upgrade before. This may seem like a stupid quation… but do you have to give them your old phone?

Ha, never mind I called and found out I can keep it. (seriously, I have never done this before.) However, I am not eligible for the $500 off because tax is not included in the upgrade pricing. BAH!

it doesn’t say anywhere that it isn’t included, you can argue that that isn’t specified on the website and that you are paying over 100 bucks a month for the service, regardless if tax isn’t included. That’s how i got mine On it’s way in the mail.

So, to be succinct mrexcuse, you are paying under $100 before tax, but you were able to argue to them that tax should be included? And they accepted that? Was there much of a fight. I would love some details so that i can steel myself for this phone call.

The $100 average is excluding taxes. If your bill is less than $100 before taxes you aren’t eligable.

I am a fido customer. My iphone was dropped in the snow in january. Of course i had to pay 700$ for a new one. This itself is totall BS. I am willing to take responsibility but i should at least get the out of warranty price. Today for a about half an hour i thought “wow they did the right thing”. WRONG. Deal is only for rogers. I hope all fido customers join me in contiunually emailing and calling until they match Rogers.

Hey guys, I’m also another pissed off fido customer on the insult of not extending the same offer as Rogers. When is fido going to realize screwing some of their best customers isnt a wise idea! I say we call fido and compliain. I can’t wait till telus gets their gsm network!

Hmmm, they have updated the website to specify that it is BEFORE taxes. The opportunity to argue my why into this offer may have passed.

First of I love my Iphone 3G! I fucking hate ROGERS since I was a kid. This may be a mean thing to say but I did not shed any tears when a Ted Rogers pass a way last year, the greedy bastard. Ted, along with Bell, and the CRTC have fuck up the telecommunication business in Canada for years
The two Options that Rogers is giving to present Iphone 3G is pure Bull Shit, a silky smooth con job. If you thing you are getting a non contract Iphone 3GS you are dreaming. Not only will you get stuck with a 4 year plan on the Original 3G. You will have to get Voice and Data from the only GSM network in Canada which is currently Rogers. Rogers prefer to sell their Voice and Data plan in three year terms.
So the bottom line is Rogers is going fuck you either way, so the best thing to do is to suck it up and not buy the Iphone 3GS and let then get stuck with the inventory.
I wish more Canadian Iphone owners would have the balls to stand up to Rogers.
I have decide that the money I was going to spend to upgrade to an Iphone 3GS will be given to Charity instead.

When you’re the only kid at the playground of course you’ll feel like you can do whatever the heck you want. Only when other kids come do you start to share and act normal. Once competition comes, Rogers will get an eye opener that’s for sure.

Fraser, all I did was tell them that it doesn’t specify on the site regarding taxes, I just told them my bill was over 100. They put me on hold and then asked which size and color I wanted. They just have to give me a credit on my next bill since the 500 option wasn’t on the computer.

Dude, yeah I think you really lucked out there. The website has been updated to give the taxes stipulation. Maybe I will call in and just go “c’moooooonnnnn!”.

I think I will say that the website doesn’t specify it still. Heck Rogers reps barely know what offers are available let along what the websites say.

for people who dontcare about contracts… Just sign for another 3 years and pay the promo price again. Won’t they let you do that?

3GS no-contracts price looks like 3 years contracts price + Cancellation fees = around 699/799$

Thinking of upgrading to the 3Gs – I qualify under Option 2 .. Question: What happens with my old iPhone 3G – do I need to return it – or can I keep it?? Does anyone know?

Those complaining about the Fido offer fail to realize that Fido no longer has any HUP program since the rebranding, and FidoDollars is the sole replacement. Many people have hundreds of FidoDollars! Do you expect the Rogers discount AND using your FidoDollars? And do you expect the same deal on the phone but you don’t pay SAF, you get per-second billing, and you don’t have to extend your contract?

I don’t think so. The Fido offer of a bonus $100 is very fair, and Rogers customers pay more overall.

Fido does have HUP! New FIDO customers do not have HUP or SAF. Any FIDO customer that started with an iPhone July 11 2008 should still be paying SAF and will be eligible for HUP.

At one point last year when FIDO changed everything they had an offer to current customers to remove SAF, if you took that offer at that time it is possible they converted your whole plan and you no longer have HUP.

I wish FIDO would make the same offers available. I don’t mind extending for another year as if I want to terminate early it would cost me about as much as buying a 3G S from them now. Maybe a better carrier won’t come along and I wouldn’t terminate any way.

Last time I checked I only had about $40 FIDO dollars after 11 months from starting new with FIDO.

In JAPAN– The launch of the 3GS meant that EVERY SINGLE user who owned the previous iPhone model, would simply have to come to the shop and trade it in for a BRAND NEW FREE PHONE. No contract ups, no nothing. A CLEAN FREE TRADE IN. Why the hell are cell phones so bloody expensive? Like, $600-$900 you guys are ok to pay that? That is like a brand new flat screen TV, or a f**king little vacation!! I don’t know…. I got an iPhone from Fido (personal use) and a Blackberry from Rogers… I spend too much money on cellular devices…
