Big Fish Games’ Subscription App Removed from the App Store

Yesterday news broke about an app from Big Fish Games that allowed the company to implement a subscription-based model for ‘all you can eat games’ from its iOS game library.

After some speculation about how this was allowed, John Gruber points to an updated Bloomberg story that notes the app has since been removed from the App Store:

“We were notified that the app was removed,” said Paul Thelen, founder of Big Fish, a game publisher in Seattle. The app had been available since Nov. 18, he said. “We’re trying to follow up with Apple to try to figure out what happened.”

According to Thelen, Big Fish had worked directly with Apple prior to the game’s release to meet requirements for the subscription model, and he notes the game was ‘officially approved’. Looks like someone at Apple erroneously approved this, as this app doesn’t meet developer guidelines. Stay tuned for updates…
