First “iPhone 5” References Leaked By Apple In iOS 5.1 Beta [Screenshots]

Earlier today, we published a report on iPad In Canada about a possible leaked reference of next generation iPad in iOS 5.1 beta, which was seeded to the developer community yesterday by Apple. Now, an even bigger discovery has come forth, thanks to 9to5Mac once again. It seems that Apple has just referenced the 6th generation iPhone a.k.a “iPhone 5” for the first time in iOS 5.1 beta’s source code as iPhone 5,1. It is now pretty much obvious that Apple is already testing the next generation iPhone which according to the rumors, will sport a larger 4-inch display with a thin, tapering aluminum body.

Citing from the source:

“Now we have, perhaps, the most important find of all: iPhone 5,1. That’s right, the next version of the iPhone is has been dubbed 5,1 internally. A new 4,x model would represent minor external changes, but nothing new on the inside in terms of processing power. For example, the iPhone 3G went from the original iPhone’s 1,1 to 1,2 because there were no internal speed and performance enhancements, just 3G and a GPS.”

Interestingly, the source believes that a “jump from 4,1 to 5,1 represents major internal changes”, where iPhone 4,1 is the iPhone 4S identifier. It is likely that iPhone 5 (or iPhone 6 as 9to5Mac is calling it) may sport an A6 processor in addition to the speculated external design changes. So, what do you make of it guys?

Yeah.. ok. Nothing earth shattering as I see it. Went from 3G model to 4S, which was nice, but new iPads and iPhones are just small incremental changes/upgrades. Apple’s next set of product(s) would really need a WOW factor for me to throw away more cash at them. Just sayin’.

You mean voice command (that can now be ported to other phones after they lied and said not enough “process power” and a higher mb pixel camera dont impress you to spend 600?!?

When did Apple say that Siri needs extra processing power, Siri was originally a standalone app for all devices. You realize its all about marketing and Apple did that so you would buy the 4S I highly doubt actually I know they won’t port Siri to older devices!

The iPhone 4s is the iPhone 5.
There will be no phone in the future called “iPhone 5”.
The next phone will be the sixth iPhone.
Why do people still insist on calling it the iPhone 5?
