“Related People” Contacts Field Found In iOS 5 For iPhone 4S Siri Voice Assistant

Here’s a pretty interesting discovery by folks over at FSM. A new field in Contacts.app labelled as “Related People” has been found in iOS 5 Gold Master which gives you the option to unify your contacts based on their relations such as mother, father, spouse, child, brother and sister. As the source notes, in case you’ve been wondering how Siri would know who your wife is? well this seems to be the answer. Take a look at the screenshot below:

If you haven’t heard about Siri yet, it is an iPhone 4S exclusive voice assistance technology that lets you use your voice to send messages, schedule meetings, place phone calls, and more. You can even ask Siri to do things just by talking the way you talk. Siri understands what you say, knows what you mean, and even talks back. According to Apple, It is so easy to use and does so much, you’ll keep finding more and more ways to use it. You can check out Siri’s awesomeness in video posted here.

Hmmmm…. I wonder how it would it handle multiple wives? 🙂 Many cultures and religions all for multiple wives… This should be interesting.

I have the GM and don’t have that option. It looks a little different than the screenshot… Job Title right on top of Department, the Instant Message on it’s own, then Birthday and Date together. That’s the end.

I should clarify… I see that the field is there for OTHER people, just not MYSELF.

Ok, so if siri is part of iOS 5 which is obviously going to work on iphone 4, why will siri supposedly only work with iphone 4s?

Probably something to do with when you first register the phone, the email address or the info you put in. I know on the mac there in Address Book the owner’s card says ME on it.

There is a setting for “My Info”.

Sadly, all those new fields are only available if your contacts are synchronized on your Mac and/or iCloud…

I have four exchange accounts on my iPhone (gmail, hotmail, exchange 2010 and exchange 2007)… None has all those new fields…

I have an exchange account set up with gmail. I’m able to add those fields. And in reply to my note below about not being able to add those fields to my account, the reason was because the field for relations was already added and I didn’t realize it, and it was empty. Once I filled in my mother, a new one popped up for father.

I only have three choices… Assistant, Directeur and conjoint (my phone is in french)… You have all other on in your gmail contacts list?

If I activate the contacts for iCloud, they will be available… But if I remove if, it’s not available…

Last sentence in post – “You can check out Siri’s awesomeness in video posted here”. Well the link takes you to an app for vlingo – an alternative to siri. No videos there???
Is that a mistake or??
