Rogers/Fido Release 6GB Data Plan For iPhones

Starting June 9, 2009, any activation as a new customer or upgrade to either the iPhone 3G or iPhone 3G “S” (coming June 19, 2009), is automatically eligible for the $30 6GB iPhone Data Plan until July 31, 2009! This plan runs on a 3 year contract and must be tied to another select voice plan. So it is select Voice Plan + 6GB Data plan under a 3 year contract.

Price: $30 per month
Data included per month: 6GB
Time frame: June 9, 2009 – July 31, 2009
Overages: 50¢/MB for the first 60MB, then 3¢/MB thereafter
Contract Term: Available on 3 year service agreement only or 3 year renewals
Device support: All iPhones: iPhone 3G and iPhone 3G “S”

this just made me think about the thing I read in the Winnipeg Free Press that gave me a good chuckle:

"The 16-gigabyte version of the 3G S will be C$199, while the 32-gigabyte version will be $299, both on a three-year contract. Rogers will also offer the phones without a three-year contract. Rogers will also cut the price of the eight-gigabyte 3G phone to $99 with a three-year contract on June 19 when the new phones are released."

Why is it laughable? If you don't mind paying the non-subsidized price for the device they'll gladly give it to you without a contract.

The fact that I have to renew my contract is ridiculous. I just called customer relations to know if there's a workaround, to no avail. Once again Rogers made me a mad customer.

Well i went to rogers.

Since i had the $60 iphone package i had to get rid of it and get a $30 voice deal and get the 6 gig deal. Also got the $20 visual mail, id and txt. used to be $15 but since the iphone uses sms soon it got priced higher. used to pay $8 extra for caller id and the iphone 60 so now im up to 80 instead of 68. wanted the 6 gig so bad so oh well

6GB is data. Data is not messaging.

I'm kinda lost... How come I need to turn Edge (Which is data right?) on in order to send MMS with SwirlyMMS? It uses Data and I get charged. Something to do with my plan? I don't have a contract with Rogers (Free:)) and data plan either LOL Just always have/use WIFI.

MMS is with a different option. you have data plan voice plan and... i dont know the extra stuff

Does somebody know if we can use the data plan for Skype or we need to unlock the phone... I know that AT&T does not allow it, but what about Rogers?

That is an excellent question. Apple has said 3.0 supports voip but it depends on the carrier. They should allow it, we are paying very high prices for data and should be able to decide what to do with it.

I tried to add the 6GB/$30 plan last night to my iPhone and Rogers could not add the plan. They told me their systems were not updated and to call back tomorrow. I called today and was asked to call back at 9am EST to speak with a data plan specialist. Called back only to be told that the web site is wrong and you can not add the 6GB/$30 plan until June 19, 2009. Rogers needs to get their act together and update their web site - this is very frustrating.

I called them yesterday told me they couldnt do it so i went to the store. i had the iphone $60 plan and couldnt add the 6 gig $30 plan cause i had that plan. so i changed everything i had and now everything is good. So they lied to you because it is now available go to a store make them call rogers

What do you guys think about renewing the three years contract for the data plan? I'm hesitating big time here. I hope they offer some decent option to upgrade the phone at some point, because in 2012 mine will be worn off and probably very slow compared to what's out there.

Oh and everybody who's been said the plan is not available yet, they were very ready to sell it to me yesterday, even talked to Customer Relations.

I just scrapped my old fido plan of 250 plus evenings and weekends and got 100 minutes and 6 gb, rest the same for $5 extra . 3 year recommit but I was only 6 months in. If you can tether you can skype with your laptop, so why not right from the phone?

How long do you think we'll have to sign up for the $30 for 6GB? I'm with another carrier & my contract comes up mid-August. Think it will still be on offer then? Anyone remember how long Rogers had the same offer up for last time?

the catch: teethering "UNTIL 2010", and then you are baked by Robbers. Then you'll have all these GBs but won't be able to do anything with them for full two last years of your 3yrs contract with Robbers
