Rogers Releases New iPhone Data Value Packs

If you were an early adopter of the iPhone 3G in Canada then you paid the price with the original Rogers’ value and data packs. Well, it looks like Rogers has quietly introduced a couple new data value packs that apply to the iPhone 3G and any other cellphone.

Here are the details of the two new data value packs released on November 26th, and are unadvertised on the Rogers website (what’s new?):

$20 Value Pack
10,000 Text Messages
10,000 Multimedia Messages
Caller ID
Visual Voicemail
Who Called
Unlimited Blackberry Internet Service (BIS): Email/Instant Messaging Only

$30 Data Value Pack
10,000 Text Messages
10,000 Multimedia Messages
Caller ID
Visual Voicemail
Who Called
500MB of data: BIS, Windows Mobile, or iPhone

3 Year Agreement is required on both plans plus all data overage protection applies. 500MB of data is valued at $25, so the maximum data overage is $75. Some people who have called in have been able to get a $10 credit towards the $30 data value pack, as part of the hardware rebate program. So try your luck if you decide to call in.

These New Value Packs Can Save you Some Money

If you’re on the $30/6GB data plan, plus the $15 visual voicemail value pack, you can potentially save some money here. How? Well, if you’ve been using less than 500MB/month, you can opt for the $30 data value pack and save yourself $15/month ($180/year). You can easily switch over to these plans from your original value/data plans.

Also, I am surprised that Rogers has introduced 10,000 text messages into these data packs. I text often but I don’t know if I’d ever exceed or meet 10K texts in a month. I would have to send more than 333.33 text messages a day to hit 10K, LOL! Maybe it’s part of the Rogers plan to hook you in to spend a bit more on these value packs.

The big question some of you may be asking right now is: “Should I save $15 but lose 5.5GB of data?” Only you can answer that. If you’re a heavy user, obviously you are relishing at the thought of your 6GB data plan. However if you’ve been using under 500MB a month, this is the data value pack you’ve been waiting for. Personally, I will be sticking with my 6GB data plan because I periodically tether my data plan with PDAnet.

Either way, let me know in the comments if you’ve switched over to one of these new value packs!

Thanks Jasper and Daniel for the heads up on this!

Can anyone help me with the following: Fido or Rogers service for an iphone? It’s for my hubby, currently with Telus. I want to get him an iphone. He uses the phone for calls +++ usually and has really high bills (>$100) because he goes over his 400+ local minutes every month and over his 500 CAN long distance/month. He won’t use it for email and websurfing, so data package is not necessary in the plan. He travels quite a bit, so needs something useable overseas (Europe, UK). In the event he did want to use internet overseas, I want the phone to be capable of doing it with 3G capability.

I just switched to the $17.50 voice plan that includes 200 mins, unlimited evenings and weekends normally starting at 9pm but for me 6pm as I qualify for a corporate rate, but I also got the new $30 data plan that everyone is talking about. I did get the $10 rebate and they confirmed it has been added for the 3 year contract if I agree to renew my contract. I had no problem with that since I’ve only been a customer for 2 months.
The total cost of my monthly plan is now 37.50 plus service charges and applicables, much better than the 86.95 I started with.

$37.50 plus SAF/911/taxes for an iPhone 3G sounds very tempting compared to paying about $80-90/month. Something definitely to consider for everyone!

So i just called, my average bill was $100 bucks or more. I now lowered it to roughly $50 with no DATA coverage at all. they said this was the best they can do… they waived the $100 cancellation fee. i have a student plan 100 weekday minutes, 500 incoming calls 1000 evening weekend 6pm and MY10 ( which is huge for me ) and then the $15 value pack with voicemail ect.. so $25 + 15 + taxes around 54 bucks but again no data plan is on this…

Hi. I just read about this which was posted a few weeks ago. Is this $30 dollar value pack still offered plus $10 rebate? I’m on the 6GB plan and I plan to call in but it’s my first time. Any tips or things I need to know when calling? Plus, does anyone know the number I should call?

    Hi,
I am with Fido, I am happy to find this post! Thank to Jessie for your tips!

First of all. Fido has no discount on Data. I have to pay full price. 25$ for 500mb or 30$ for 1Gb.

I was with an old plan unlimited incoming calls of Fido 25$ + Network fee + …
After 3 calls, I got in customer relations departement.

    They offer of 25$+Taxes are:
    - 200 Minutes.
    - 2500 sms.
    - Unlimited Incoming calls.
    - Fido to Fido, unlimited calls & sms.
    - Unlimited Envening & Weekend.
    - Call ID.
    - Visual Voicemail.
    - No Network Fee
    - No 911 Fee

Of course, I renew the 3 yrs contract!

I tried posting up my plan a few days ago but it did not appear… anywase since then there have been a few changes and wanted to mention what I scored on a 3 yr deal…

    17.50 – EPP Plan (w/ a lot of extras)

    200 Minutes + 150 Bonus Minutes = 350 Minutes
    Call Waiting
    Conference Calling
Unlimited Network Calling (Fee waived – I think just for the 3 yrs)
    Unlimited Weekends & Evenings (6pm)

$20 Data Value Pack (Really $30 – thanks to this forum I got the credit!)

    Caller ID
    Visiaul Voicemail
10,000 Sent Text Msg / Unlimited Incoming
    10,000 Sent Multimedia Msg’s
Who Called (Personally I don’t really like this but hey if it’s free why not)
    500 MB

    TOTAL : $37.50 + SAF + TAX

I got everything you see here originally with only 250 mins and Rogers to Rogers BUT with some mix up’s they included the extra 100 mins and Network calling instead of Rogers-Rogers.

Activation fee was also waived and iPhone purchased for $199.99.

I think this is pritty sweet seeing as though some people are paying $70 or $80 +

hi. i have a jailbroken iphone 3g with swirly mms. I also signed up for the 30$ iphone data value pack and was under the impression i had 10,000 MMSs. But i called rogers and they charged me 5.50$ for the 11 MMS i sent. They told me that this data value pack doesn’t include 10,000 MMS and that the 10,000 MMS only applies to the 30$ smartphone data value pack which is identical except for the normal voicemail instead of the visual voice mail. Both 30$ data value packs work with iphone but the difference is that the smart phone pack can do 10,000 MMS but only normal voicemail while the 30$ iphone datavalue pack doesn’t have MMS covered but has visual voicemail. I just want to confirm with everyone to see if the information i got from the rogers rep is correct. As we all know, each rep tells a different story. Your feedback is really appreciated. Thank you

Hi= I need some help as I am new to anything but a basic cell phone- dec 17th I got a blackberry w/ $25 student plan and $15 data plan from rogers- now I have an iPhone- tried to cancel the data plan but they say I have a 3 year commitment( or pay $100)-I understand that data plan can not be used with iPhone- I plan on just using wifi- should I just bite it and keep the useless $15 plan- or is there some plan for iPhone that would be worthwhile for me- thanks for any advise-Y

Thank you very much iphoneincanada!! I’ve been following this thread for about 6 weeks now and because of it, I was able to seal a sweet deal!! (IMHO).

So I called Fido to let them know that Rogers had offered me a great plan for the iPhone. I told them about the EPP and the 30$ Value Pack. Here’s what Fido offered me to “beat” (they actually used that term :-) Rogers:

-Fido “modified” Killer Plan @ 17.50$
    – Unlimited evenings and weekends from 5pm
    – Unlimited incoming text messages
    – 200 weekday minutes; per second billing
    – 2500 SMS

-Fido Value Pack for the iPhone @ 10.00$
    – Call display
    – Who Called (TM)
    – Visual Voice Mail

    -500 MB of @ 25.00$

And, to make sure they really beat Rogers, they gave me Unlimited Incoming Calls, free of charge (a 10.00$ value!)

They also removed all service fees, free of charge. Some posters complained that removing this was considered a plan change, hence a 25.00$ charge.

My monthly total is now 52.50$, plus taxes. I can surely live with that!! Again, a big thank you to this wonderful community!

P.S.: Don’t be afraid to call either Fido or Rogers. They seem to be in a client grabbing mood (more than usually) and they tend to be flexible if you insist and if you are well informed.

In Halifax, Rogers is saying there is no discount to $20. Called 3 times, no luck.

But I changed to the iPhone Data Value Pack anyway, as I wasn’t even using 500MB, let alone 6GB with my old plan (no one I know used 500 MB). So now I’m still paying $30 for my data plan but getting texting, Visual Voicemail, Caller ID and 500MB data, instead of just $30 for just 6GB data. Fits my needs better.
