Rogers/Fido Announce iPhone 4 Activation/Upgrade Pricing, 6GB Data Plan Returns

Today is a great today for Canadians as the pricing for the contract and outright iPhone 4 has finally been confirmed!

In the USA, France, Germany, Japan, and United Kingdom, iPhone 4 pre-orders went live on June 15, 2010 for a launch date of June 24, 2010. At the time, it was confusing to why Canada was left out of that country list.

Now, one month later on July 30 2010, it is Canada’s launch day.

iPhone 4 Purchasing Methods

Canadians will have three methods to get their iPhone 4:

1.) Canadians will be able to order the unlocked, full price iPhone 4 16/32GB in Black through the Apple Canada Online Store starting Friday July 30. Any online orders are shipped to the billing address (no store pickup).

2.) As an alternative for the unlocked iPhone 4, customers can also visit their local Apple Store to purchase an outright, unlocked iPhone 4 starting Friday July 30. There will be line-ups this weekend.

3.) For customers that want iPhone 4 locked on contracts with activations or upgrades (usually with promotional pricing), visit your local Apple Store or Canadian wireless dealer (Rogers, Bell, Virgin, Fido, Telus) store starting Friday July 30. There will be line-ups this weekend.

To summarize, if you want your iPhone 4 IMMEDIATELY, do either method 2 or method 3 above.

Please note that the iPhone 4 is limited to two per customer.

Canadian iPhone 4 Pricing

Canadian pricing for the iPhone 4 is as follows when purchased at an Apple Store (or on contract from a Canadian wireless dealer):

iPhone 4 (Black Only; White Delayed Until Further Notice)

  • 16GB: $159 locked on contract; $649 unlocked without contract
  • 32GB: $269 locked on contract; $749 unlocked without contract

Note: Any iPhone 4 purchased at a Canadian wireless carrier store will be locked to that carrier no matter the price paid. However, if purchased at full price from an Apple Store, the iPhone 4 will be unlocked. If purchased on contract from an Apple Store, the iPhone 4 will be locked to a Canadian wireless carrier.

The iPhone 3GS is also available at a new price:

iPhone 3GS (Black)

  • 8GB: $99 locked on contract; $549 unlocked without contract

Note: The iPhone 3GS purchased at a Canadian wireless carrier store will be locked to that carrier no matter the price paid. However, if purchased at full price from an Apple Store, the iPhone 3GS will be unlocked. If purchased on contract from an Apple Store, the iPhone 4 will be locked to a Canadian wireless carrier.

Rogers Activation & Upgrade Pricing

If you activated or upgraded your Rogers iPhone on a contract between January 1, 2009 and June 7, 2010:

  • You are eligible for at least $250 off the no-term device price. That puts the iPhone 4 16GB for $399 and iPhone 4 32GB for $499 on a new 3-year voice and data plan.

If you activated or upgraded your Rogers iPhone on a contract before December 31, 2008:

  • You are eligible for $490 off the no-term device price for the iPhone 4 16GB and $480 off the no-term device price for the iPhone 4 32GB (promotional pricing). That puts the iPhone 4 16GB for $159 and iPhone 4 32GB for $269 on a new 3-year voice and data plan.

If you activated or upgraded your Rogers iPhone 3G in 2008 and then upgrade again between June 19, 2009 and September 15, 2009:

  • You are eligible for $490 off the no-term device price for the iPhone 4 16GB and $480 off the no-term device price for the iPhone 4 32GB (promotional pricing). That puts the iPhone 4 16GB for $159 and iPhone 4 32GB for $269 on a new 3-year voice and data plan.

Fido Activation & Upgrade Pricing

Fido also has an iPhone 4 promotion.

For customers who entered into a Fido agreement on or before December 31st, 2008, are eligible for the same agreement pricing as new customers when they renew their voice and data agreement. In other words, $159 for 16GB and $269 for 32GB.

Customers who do not qualify for the above offer are eligible for a $250 credit off the no-term price when they reset their voice and data term to a 3-year agreement.

Based on discounts, iPhone 4 will cost:

  • 16GB iPhone 4: $399 ($250 off) or $159 ($490 off)
  • 32GB iPhone 4: $499 ($250 off) or $269 ($480 off)

In addition, customers may contribute all accumulated FidoDollars towards their upgrade, which can be used at a Fido store or Apple Store.

Rogers/Fido $30 6GB Data Plan Returns

Effective July 30 2010, smartphone customers who activate on a three-year voice and data contract can choose the Rogers/Fido 6GB data plan for $30.

Normally, Rogers/Fido charge $30 for 1GB of data.

This data plan can be added to any in-market voice plan before September 30, 2010. At this time, it seems that September 30, 2010 is the expiry date for this offer. If you are a new customer or existing, you are eligible for the $30 6GB data plan and once you add the plan, the plan is permanent unless you take it off (like any other data plan).

iPhone 4 MicroSIM Card

For the MicroSIM card, if the iPhone 4 is purchased at a Canadian wireless carrier store or Apple Store, the customer will receive one MicroSIM card for use with a Canadian wireless carrier at no charge.

Additional MicroSIM cards will be charged accordingly.

Good to know! Maybe I should have just called Apple!

  •  Xaroc

Yeah but asking here you dont have to be on hold for 20 minutes ^_~

  •  Xaroc

Dont quote me on this. But im sure you can spend your fido play money at any place you can sign a contract with a fido carrier.

  • Jeff

All I wanna know is if I'll be able to still get a 32gb if I go to the apple store at 5pm friday afternoon….they should have enough stock at apple stores to last atleast Friday right? If not I'm gonna be choked

  • Larry

What if you buy an iPhone from Fido and one from Apple. Then you put the locked on back in the box and return it to the Apple store. Now you have an unlocked iPhone. I'm not saying to do this, but it seems pretty easy.

  • http://www.mshade.net/ Can't wait for iPhone 4!

Hehe, just negotiated with Rogers retention department for an additional $10 off my already discounted retention plan :)

    go Rogers!

And they said I can get 2 iPhone 4 at $159/$269 tomorrow in any authorized Rogers dealer.

Looks like I will pick up an unlock iPhone 4 for my personal use and sell the Rogers locked iPhone 4 tomorrow!

  •  Xaroc

I really don't know. Last year with the 3GS they still had some when I
cruised by at 3pm. But with I4 I dunno if it will be the same way

  • GinaM

Does anyone know about current student plan of rogers?
I'll buy an unlocked one from apple and activate to rogers without contracts.
Then, can I use $30 student plan? Or I just choose basic month to month plan?

  • ders

That's what I figured. Anyhow, I just spoke to another rep and she told me that I CAN go to Apple and they will have to call the Rogers business centre to verify HUP. I'm sure the Apple staff will to love having 500 people in line and me asking them to call Rogers to verify a price. It's going to be an interesting morning!

  •  Xaroc

To make things fast and easy i wonder if Rogers is smart enough to have Dedicated lines for Privet use of the Apple stores just for this reason.

  • hmmmmmm

Is the HUP still not working for anyone else?

    I got a 3G from them in 2008 & got a 3GS June 24th 2009 and haven't upgraded since. That should be a $159/$269 right? Because the tool is showing me $649/$749 still…

  •  Xaroc

Call your carrier and find out. perhaps they can swing something for you is you explain to them what you have here.

  • http://www.justinluey.com Justin Luey

I bought the 3G and 3GS on launch day, and it shows me $399 instead of $159.

  • http://www.mshade.net/ Poochi

    that would be fraud.
and they check the serial anyways.

  • http://www.mshade.net/ Poochi

Gary / Ex still on? Any of you lining up in front of Apple store yet? Is camping outside needed to get my hands on this new gadget tomorrow? I would hate to go in and being told it;s out of stock >_<

  • Ksmith

i hear how people are always getting discounts on their plans like this, how do you guys go about doing that?

  • guest

Did they hold a phone at a particular store for you? or will you just go early enough and pick one up?

  • Fallinin

any one know if we can buy them online at midnight? or at all?

  •  Xaroc

I'm worried too. But last year the 3GS was still in stock at 3pm. And
I bought my iPad the day AFTER the release, so I hope all will be good
if we are there between 7-12. I hope lol

  • Jsnides

What price are you selling the extra iPhone @?

  • Omar

Its honestly very simple. You just have to understand the bargaining power you actually have. the 3 year contract that so many people hate can actually work to your advantage.

Lets say you are currently at the beginning of your 2nd year of your 3 yr contract, so 2 years left. You have a monthly spend (the amount your bill actually comes to before taxes, not your actually plan cost) of $100 dollars. You want a better plan and a new phone. You know it will only cost you $400 to get out of your contract. 24×100 = $2400 over the next 2 years. You want a new that has a retail of $749, they will offer it to you at $400 if you resign. This is BS. So you call up customer service, explain to them that you need to save money, bills are to high, whatever. This is important, all you hve to say is that competitor X(best bet is to use Wind) is offering a plan for $45 dollars that offers you everything you currently receive for $100+. You “dont” really care about getting an iphone but it would be preffered but your monthly bill trumps having an iphone. Once you mention a competitor and they note it on your account, they HAVE to send you to business retention. (the reps can actually get in trouble if they dont offer customers a better deal when they mention competitive offers – I was told this by a rep). Its simple, they can either get $400 today and lose you as a customer, or give you a better deal and a new phone and still get $2400 over the next 3 years from you. At the end of the day all that matters is that they get your money. And the last thing they want is to lose market share to WIND. I just did this on Monday and got a plan that offered 700/unlimited@6, 1000LD minutes, unlimted text caller id and voicemail for $57/month and they gave the line a BB 8900 for free all on a 1yr commitment.

So just know how to bargain and negotiate….and like my dad always told me, some money is always better then no money, which im sure Rogers also prefers

  • http://www.justinluey.com Justin Luey

There are no phone or online sales from Rogers for the iPhone 4.

  • Fallinin

im 16 and and cant sign a contract, and the phone is not available online. i cant have my mom come in because she will be working at the time. i had her sign a paper stating that she allows me to buy the contract without her. anyone think this will work?

  • Szarky

I was coming home from work around 6… there was already about 10-15 people at Pacific Centre in Vancouver. Wow!

So I went home, called FutureShop and put down my name on a wait list, they called me a few hours later… and I got the last 32GB with Fido! Just have to show up at 9:30 and the doors will open at 10. They're took all my information down and all I have to do is just sign some papers when it's my turn. Very impressed with FutureShop.

  • Fuzzylogic

What really bothers me is that I bought my iPhone 3G in the spring of 2009 and I have to pay 399/499. If you bought a 3G after December 31st 2008 your screwed, while someone who bought a 3GS between June 19th and September 15th gets full promo pricing. Does this seem unfair to anyone else? I've had my phone longer than others, yet I have to pay more? Ideas?

  • Silentbomb

I upgraded on july 14 2010 with Rogers and evey time i check if im eligible for a upgade to iphone 4 it tells me that i can get the iphone 4 for 159/16 gb and 269/32 gb.

Is this an problem with there site or did something change cause earlier today i checked and it told me 659/16 gb and 759/32 gb. So i was not eligible and now i am?? i wish it's true cause since i got my iphone 3gs i had nothing but problems.

  • hmmmmmm

I did… they (Rogers) really wasn't being helpful… they said go instore and try,but I'm assuming its gonna be the same thing still?

  • hmmmmmm

You upgraded 15 days ago and it shows you as eligible for 159?

    Go get that phone now.

  • Silentbomb

Yes it still tell's me that i am eligible for the upgrade, i just checked it again at 1:05 am and still shows me that i am eligible. I will check it in the morning to see if it still says that and then im calling Rogers to confirm.

  • RyanK

Some of you guys are saying that Rogers will not be able to upgrade to the iPhone 4 over the phone? Is this only temporary and for the iPhone 4, or is it a new policy for all upgrades? Do all upgrades have to be in store? Thx

  • Speakersarethebest

It don't think it will. I am in the exact same situation as you and I asked an employee at Future Shop yesterday if I could just bring in a signed piece of paper and they said they couldn't do it, which is too bad. Maybe at other stores it might, but not at Future Shop.

  • Silentbomb

Rogers no longer does or will do device upgrades over the phone, you must go to a Rogers plus store or a retail store (best buy, future shop). Its not only for the iphone 4, its for all device upgrades.

  •  Xaroc

I renewed in April. I get 159 upgrade too. I even called in to confirm.

  •  Xaroc

I really not sure. Could call again. Some operators are useless

  • Silentbomb

So when you called them to confirm they told you that you can upgrade to iphone 4 for 159/16 or 269/32 even though you upgraded in april 2010 on a 3 year term.

  • Bblb

I have my hands on the iPhone 4 already. Pays to have family working for Rogers. Just can't fire it up until tomorrow!

  • http://www.iphoneincanada.ca/ Ex

    Gary is in line.

Apple Stores will have enough stock to last a week. Don't worry.

  • Jordan

Anybody in calgary going to a rogers store? Are people lined up already?

  • Guest

Hey Ex, I'm only 1 year into my contract. Am I eligible to upgrade to the Iphone 4 for 399$? They will extend my contract 1 year longer correct? I am a existing rogers customer, can I still get the 6GB data plan?

  • Scott

A week? Are you serious?? I'm thinking they'll sell out for sure tomorrow

  • http://www.iphoneincanada.ca/ Ex

    Not a chance.

  • http://www.iphoneincanada.ca/ Ex

    Hard to say.
Best let a rep check your eligibility.

  • Scott

    even Pac Centre?

  • http://www.iphoneincanada.ca/ Ex

    All of them

  • http://twitter.com/DanDakin Dan Dakin

First in line at the Pen Centre in St. Catharines ontario. They have all the major carriers here. Fido who I'm with said yesterday they would only have 10 or so phones.

  • TargetSu

I called 1-888-ROGERS1 on Friday, July 30th at 7:30AM EST, and the first message is “If your calling about the iPhone 4, press #. The message then says “the iPhone 4 is sold out. Please check a store to see if they have stock.”

So I called back am now on hold, trying to get an agent to talk to…

on hold for 6 minutes now.

    -Paul S.

  •  Xaroc

    Yes.

  •  Xaroc

    Shhh! Dont say that!

Lol every company wants to brag about how many sales they can push out
on the week/month. Running out of stock isn't good for that, ex has a
    very good point here.

  • Vince To

hmm question… if i do not currently own an iphone, (so i have a normal, old, voice phone only) am i still eligible to upgrade to the iphone 4 for only $159 considering that my contract meets the minimum term requirements?

  • markajaw

DONT BELIEVE WHAT ROGERS IS SAYING! THEY JUST MADE ME BUY A 32 GB FULL PRICE WHEN IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN 499.

WTF! I was first in line and waited for ages. I couldn't wait for the next shipment because I need my phone for email and I sold my 3GS. So I just bought a locked iPhone 4 at full price because of false advertising by Rogers. I should have gone to the apple store.

Thanks a lot Rogers, thanks so much. FML
