Setup Fido EDGE Settings for the iPhone

Since I posted about the Roger’s EDGE settings for the iPhone yesterday, it’s only fair that today I post about Fido’s EDGE settings, right? Well, I never did setup EDGE on my iPhone when I was signed up with Fido’s Pay As You Go. I didn’t want to spend the ridiculous prices Canadian carriers charge us for data. Anwyays, I’ve done some research and the following information is what you’ll need to enter in order to activate EDGE on your iPhone with Fido.

How to Setup Fido EDGE Settings on the iPhone

  1. Settings –> General –> Network –> EDGE
  2. Enter the following settings:
    • APN: internet.fido.ca
    • Username: fido
    • Password: fido

Some users have had trouble configuring EDGE for their iPhone with Fido. Here are some tips that might help you along your way:

  • Call Fido’s Customer Service line and ask them to activate your EDGE account if you haven’t done so before
  • If EDGE still doesn’t work after that, call Fido and ask for a new SIM card. Many users have been able to get a replacement SIM free of charge (your number will stay the same)

I’ve been pretty busy with work lately, but don’t worry as once I get some more time I will post more information about owning and using an iPhone in Canada with Rogers or Fido.     I have a problem with edge settings. When I type in the APN and hit return, the settings application crashes and I end up at the homescreen. The settings do not take. I’ve tried using the Services app to turn Edge settings on and off but this does not help. I’ve even tried editing one of the plist files but this does not help either. If you have any idea what is the problem and how to fix it, I’d sure appreciate it. I just signed on for fido’s $18 internet package and would like to get this fixed asap so I can use edge. Edge did work for me at one time, but now it does not.

    bazz: Hmm…tricky situation there. I would try restoring your iPhone to start from scratch. Seems as though something internal might be causing the crash. Good luck and thanks for commenting! :)

    I am having the same problem. I am on Rogers. All was working fine except I accidently hit the “Reset All Settings” and the problem started.

    Did you get yours fixed?

    i have a fido phone.. and im thinking of switching to the iphone V 1.1.3
    I was wondering first if there is an unlock availiable for the V 1.1.3 and if not.. how long will it be before one is out or how would i get around it ?
    Second… once i get it unlocked.. will it work on my fido network???? and how would i grt it to be activated if it is possible

    I have a FIDO account. I just got the $18 value pack from rogers wich gives me 12mb data/month. They gave me the WAP settings, IP address, DNS address, and its NOT working.
    I cant get my Edge to work, or anything.
    I cant even find on my iPhone where to modifly IP or DNS or anything.

    maybe iPhone EDGE for fido can’t work at all??? anybody know whats going on???

    Panic,

    You need to do a file mod, as Safari can’t process WAP data. Its on the net somewhere. And for iPhone Fan, there are 2 internet settings for iPhone. For those on Fido’s 12mb plan, you HAVE to use WAP.fido.ca apparently.

    Hey I was reading some of the fine print on fido’s website and it says that they will charge an extra 5 cents for evey KB on a phone not authorized by fido even if you have a surfing plan. Is anyone aware of this or if they charge for the iphone.

    anybody on the Rogers network in Vancouver find the coverage/reception to be horrible? Every call gets dropped or the person on the other end says “dude…get a new phone”.

    running version 1.1.1…anybody help?

    the $7 unlimited with Rogers-Fido is legit. I’ve called, spoken to 3 different people and they all assure me, if you’re phone is EDGE ready, and isn’t a Blackberry, you’re golden.

    7 bucks!! Now THAT’S a deal!

    Be careful with Edge on Fido….. I surfed about 4 websites one nite using the settings mentioned in this blog… worked great.
    it turned out to be 4,421kb of downloaded text and graphics.
    and at .05/kb my bill was over 221 dollars.

    now I found this link….

    I have not tried it but this time I am waiting for someone to confirm this. if this is true then $7.00/month is worth it.

    I made it a point to tell the dude it was an iPhone…three times actually and they said it wasn’t a problem. But now that there has been some doubt, I’ll call to confirm-confirm tomorrow.

    if there’s one cent of extra data charged, I’ll surely go to town on them though.

    Hi, I just receved my new IPHONE cool but since I unlock it each time i go on the web with it it souht it self down with this note : “This Iphone need repear…” and it tell me to go on a iphone adresse thecnical support ?

    I just got my iphone this week and it took 3 phone calls with fido and my data still wasn’t working. i was still getting the Edge not enabled error.

    Turned out, there was a space behind internet.fido.ca, such a simple mistake! It’s all good now (except for the prices)

    The $7 unlimited data is not compatible with iphones, don’t get scammed!
