MyFitnessPal Launches AI Coach to Assist Users on Personalized Nutrition Advice

MyFitnessPal has launched a new AI-powered nutrition coach to assist users in creating personalized nutrition plans. The latest feature reviews logged meals, macros, and habits to create more accessible, personalized targets for users.
As the new feature rolls out to users, a new ‘Coach’ tab will appear in the MyFitnessPal app. Here, the feature will draw from data such as remaining calories, macros and logging history. The AI coach can then provide deeper context into how the user can reach their own targets for calories, protein and other macros. Practical feedback and recommendations can then be provided as well, without relying on third-party apps or other coaching methods.
The MyFitnessPal AI coach is designed to provide immediate recommendations for users. This allows users to swap out specific foods and create more macro-friendly recipes. It can also help with adjusting portion sizes or even meal pairing. The company goes as far as to say the AI coach can provide suggestions on what to eat at a restaurant, based on what’s on the menu.
The backbone of the AI coach is the toolsets and existing features within the MyFitnessPal app on the App Store or Google Play. With this, MyFitnessPal’s approach is meant to be far more personalized and tailored thanks to its data.
“As dietitians, we know that nutrition information without context can be confusing to interpret and act on,” Melissa Jaeger, RD, LD, Head of Nutrition at MyFitnessPal, says. “AI Coach acts as a real-time translator. It looks at what you ate for breakfast that morning, takes into account your goals, and gives you meaningful feedback that makes the act of logging food not only worthwhile but insightful.”
The AI coach feature is rolling out now. Users must have active Premium and Premium+ subscriptions, which start at $12.09/month in Canada.
