Skype Hits Milestone of Over 32 Million Users Signed In Simultaneously

Skype for iOS is probably one of my most used apps. With the release of the iPhone app, then eventually the iPad app, it has been incredibly easy to access the chat and VoIP service. The service just announced on their blog of hitting a major milestone of 32 million users online at once, which occurred yesterday:

Yesterday, Skype passed a new milestone. There were 32 million people signed onto Skype at the same time.

That’s quite a lot of people using Skype to build and maintain meaningful connections with friends, family and co-workers by making voice and video calls, instant messaging or sending files between computers, mobiles and even TVs. Of course, let’s not forget those of you who are calling phones and landline numbers around the world at great low-cost rates using Skype Credit.

Skype was acquired by Microsoft in May of last year to create a FaceTime rival, and last August we saw the release of the Skype WiFi iOS app. With the hundreds of million iOS devices sold, that probably helped Skype reach this milestone.

SkypeOut credit has been one of my must haves for calling home for cheap during travelling, and using the app on my iPhone couldn’t be easier. How often do you use Skype on your iPhone?
