The iPhone 5 has been rumoured to launch in October on Telus, but right now signs still point to a September release. Most of us would consider waiting in line the night before. But some people like Rob Shoesmith (okay, only him), like to do something even crazier–wait in line before the launch date has been revealed.
Rob isn’t your average Joe though, he’s the marketer behind MEDL Mobile. He has started to wait in line in the UK, and is looking for sponsors to help make his ‘wait a luxurious one’. So far, he’s managed to snag some wet wipes, free service from a laundry delivery company, free candy, popcorn, and even a package from Skype. The cool part? He isn’t even in line yet, but he’s received tonnes of swag–over £40,000 worth to be exact.
Given Apple launches generate a huge amount of buzz in the media, it’s a brilliant move on Rob and MEDL’s part to pull off this stunt. Companies that have jumped on to sponsor him will definitely get some exposure on his blog.

I had an absolute blast waiting for the iPhone 4 last summer. Â I can’t wait to do it again. Â And, to the guy that suggested going at 5:50…one of my friends saw me in the line last year just after midnight, and said the same thing. Â By 5:50AM that morning there was already 30 people waiting for the 25 iPhones that store had (and Victoria isn’t even a big city). Â I had someone from the back of the line offer to pay for my iPhone to have my spot in line (fat chance after 12 hours waiting!).

yup. apple stores are equipped to handle hardware upgrades from carriers. in fact at iphone 4 launch rogers stores only got a handful of phones whereas apple stores got hundreds.
I waited 14 hours to get the iPhone 4 just to get a piece of paper to come back in two days because Rogers activation servers crashed on launch day (big surprise… Morons). So no I will wait two weeks at home if I must!

Personally I will never wait in the line. I don’t really need an unlocked device anyway so I will simply call the carrier and order on the phone and have it delivered to my door. I don’t mind to wait for that few more days since I have waited this long. Oh, and the 5 is for my wife and she doesn’t care when she can get it as long as she can get one.
