iPhone 5 Intro Planned For Apple’s September Media Event?

As is expected with iPhone 5 rumors, when one report says one thing, an opposing report immediately says another.

The general theme of the recent iPhone 5 rumors is that the device will not be making an appearance anywhere this summer 2011. Since 2007, a new iPhone has been released each year in the summer months and it seems that may be changing.

A new claim from All Things Digital’s John Paczkowski now points to the iPhone 5 being introduced this September 2011 during Apple’s annual media event.

As I’ve reported here before, Apple doesn’t plan to unveil a new iPhone at its Worldwide Developers Conference, which this year will be largely software-focused. And increasingly, I’m hearing speculation about the company possibly commandeering its annual September media event to launch the device instead. Which seems plausible.

While still speculation, Paczkowski does have more credibility in my books than various “part suppliers” when it comes to Apple news.

The reasoning for a September introduction is the general loss of dazzle or interest in the iPod over the last few years. As the iPhone and iPad become Apple’s mobile frontrunners, the iPod has taken a backseat.

From a consumer perspective, at least it’s still going to be warm in September when we’re all waiting in line outside. I just hope the iPhone release cycle doesn’t get pushed too far into winter or spring.

  • With the MobileMe update to debut and the CDMA iPhone that came out only a couple months ago it makes some sense that the iPhone will be updated a little later this year.
MobileMe will help tie the iPhone 5 into the music/media event and it’ll be all about all the personal mobile devices being social together and therefore announced together.

    That sounds solid to me.

This makes me want to cry. I still have a 3G and have been counting the days till June so I can replace my beloved, yet incredibly slow beast with the 5. September is sooooooo far away. It just doesn’t make sense to get a 4 now tho, even if my 3G is aggravating beyond belief. Apple needs to stick to it’s schedule.

  • worddd me too my 3G has no more buttons as they all broke off and its slow as hell i need the iPhone 5 NOW

Wait a little these may be rumours.
    Keep your fingers crossed 🙂

  • Get a 4 it works great, and you can upgrade two years later. Besides which iOS5 will make it amazing…I hope.

Easy solution. Sell off your 3G on Craigslist, and buy an iPhone 4 also on Craigslist. I did this last Nov. and paid only $50 more the the iPhone 4.

Not in Canada you can’t. Stupid 3 year contracts have us hostage to antique hardware. My 3G is so painful I’ve nearly thrown it across the room. Mostly it’s things that use the location feature and I BLAME APPLE UPDATES for it.

Ok, carriers offer you some pro-rated fee after 2 years, but having already paid $300 bucks for this thing, I really don’t want to pay this soon.

Most Canadian carriers allow upgrades after two years, on a 3-year term.

  • I buy iPhone 4 last July during its launch; Am I eligible for an upgrade March 2012? At this rate, I don’t want to wait for iPhone 6, especially if v5 will have the same look.
