Merchant Customer Exchange (MCX), the company behind the forthcoming CurrentC mobile payment service has just swapped CEOs.

Dekkers Davidson will be replaced by Brian Mooney, who was most recently the CEO and board member of Bank of America Merchant Services. The news of the CEO swap comes one day after Best Buy and Discover both announced that why would begin working with Apple Pay.

Best Buy and Discover have been big supporters of CurrentC, however, they have started to work with CurrentC’s top competitor in the mobile payments space. Both companies are still keeping their involvement with MCX, but the commitment to Apple Pay is yet another blow to CurrentC.

CurrentC uses a QR code-based system to make mobile payments that is far more cumbersome than solutions like Apple Pay and Google Wallet. MCX is set to officially launch CurrentC later this year.

Apple Pay launched last October and has become a great success in the United States. The company is looking to expand its mobile payment service around the world in the future, including a rumoured Canadian launch later this year.
