Facebook Messenger Launches Uber Integration in USA, Global Expansion Soon

Today, Facebook announced that it has partnered up with Uber to launch a new feature for Messenger in the US: transportation. By adding this feature, it enables Messenger users to request a ride from a car service like Uber without needing to download a separate app or leave the ongoing chat.

All you need to do is download the latest version of Facebook Messenger and, from the conversation tab, choose Transportation or search directly for Uber and tap the car icon to request a ride. From that moment on, you’ll receive updates on the driver’s status and can pay for the ride directly within the app without having to launch a new application.

To kick-start this new feature, Facebook announced that the first ride with Uber is free (up to $20 value) for a limited time. To benefit from this promotion, you’ll need to link your existing Uber account to Messenger or set up a new account, and that’s it.

The service is currently in public testing and will be available in the US in select locations, but Facebook is planning for global expansion soon.

Earlier today, Facebook Messenger gained 3D Touch support for iPhone 6s users, to bring quick shortcuts for sending new messages.
