On Thursday, Google announced on its official blog a new set of emojis that include a more diverse range of characters.

As a result of a proposal made by Google, Unicode Technical Committee has agreed to add 11 new professions for both women and men in all skin tones. Unicode will also make it possible to choose between male and female versions of 33 existing emojis.

Google’s backing of this emoji update is one of the company’s many initiatives to promote and support women’s professional efforts. In its official blog post, Google wrote:

“While there’s a huge range of emoji, there aren’t a lot that highlight the diversity of women’s careers, or empower young girls.”

Google’s new emoji will be included in future versions of the Android mobile operating system.
