Google Updates Maps with Wheelchair Accessible Routes [u]

Google has announced a new feature in Google Maps, which shows wheelchair accessible routes.

The long-awaited update helps people to find timely ways to navigate urban areas that are notoriously unfriendly to people with mobility needs.

Accessing accessibility route on Google Maps, on the other hand, is really easy. Simply type your destination as you normally would and select the public transit option. From there, users will be able to select “Wheelchair accessible” from the options menu.

Currently, the feature is only available in London, New York, Boston, Mexico City, Tokyo, and Sydney. The company says that it working to bring accessibility information to more cities as soon as possible.

Update: As noted by some iPhoneinCanada.ca readers, the feature is also working in Toronto, despite not being listed down by Google (thanks Jesse).
