iOS Users to get free MobileMe?

Apple MobileMe
Keeping it all in sync with MobileMe

With the iPhone iOS 4.2 update hotly awaited, information has come to light that might support the spreading rumour that Apple could be offering free MobileMe services with the update.

Error messages imbedded into both the iOS 4.2 and 4.2.1 build frameworks (specifically the AppleAccount.framework) seem to reference “maximum number of free accounts” for MobileMe accounts.

Reports go on to speculate that while MobileMe Mail isn’t supported, other services such as Find my iPhone, OTA (Over the Air) Sync and Photo Galleries might be offered.

In my humble opinion, this would bring Apple back in line with Google – especially with the OTA sync services. Personally I hate paying $100+ annually to sync my Safari bookmarks from my iMac to my iPhone and iPad devices – but (a secret I keep from my wife!) – it’s well worth the price when I can’t find that hot bookmark or link I saved on my iMac rushing out the door!

With the iOS 4.2 update imminent, we’ll see shortly! We’ll keep you posted!

    That would be sick!

That would be nice to have some of MobileMe’s features free, especially Find My iPhone

I pay the 100+ annually fee for email, the syncing, and for my website hosting. But I really hope its free!

Someone should tell your wife about your secret porn bookmarks! LoL

  • I’m about 30 days into a 60 day trial and have been loving the OTA calendar sync between all of our machines and iPhones. Really, it’s the ONLY thing about MobileMe that I actually use, so to get it free would be a bonus…because I really wasn’t looking at receiving a lot of value for my $100 for calendar sync alone.

if thhats true, it would encourage ppl to buy more apple productts…personally all i own is the new iphone

  • Ari

if they do, they better be aware about the ppl that paid the $99 a year for the service.. If they offer it.. I want a full refund!

  • Dj_dmc

Well I’m not renewing my sub. next year either way. The only thing I’d miss is FMI . Other than that, google has everything else that mobile.me has. So hopefully it’ll go free.

  • lol looks like the exact point i was making back in the “Today is a Day you will never forget” thread back a couple days ago ^_~

If this does happen, this would be a day I would never forget….lol

This is a spectacular rumour, and if it comes true it will be a joyous occasion. Well done.

it’s always good to get something for apple ——- it doesn’t happen very often though…..

but i am not really excited about the mobileme thing. i already can pretty much sync everything from google sync.. like push mail, push calender, contacts sync. good enough. i don’t want to switch over or keep on some functions i don’t really need to kill my battery…..
