SteathSIM 3G SE: Unlock your Rogers iPhone 3G

Share:

Remember the days of owning a first generation iPhone, but having it come with 1.1.2 firmware? That time period was pretty painful for the folks who could only activate and jailbreak their iPhones and use them as “iPhone Touches”. But, as with anything eventually an unlock came out through a “SIM solution”. One that worked out well for a lot of people out there was the StealthSIM.

How to Unlock your iPhone 3G: StealthSIM SE Edition

Anyways, fast forward to the iPhone 3G. The makers of the StealthSIM have now created the StealthSIM SE, a new method to unlock your iPhone 3G. It works just like the old StealthSIM. It is a thin wafer circuit that goes over your SIM card, and will allow you to use your iPhone 3G on ANY GSM network. These new StealthSIMs are thinner than the last bunch. I am getting a sample coming in the mail and will have a full review up soon.

Why is Unlocking Important? Who Needs This?

If you’re using your iPhone 3G on Rogers and Fido at the present moment, you don’t need this. However, if you’re going to be doing a lot of travelling and want to use your iPhone, this could save you a lot of money. Instead of paying the excessive Rogers roaming charges overseas, this StealthSIM SE will enable you to use local GSM carrier SIM cards.

So if you’re hitting up Hong Kong for the weekend, you can just buy a local SIM and use that. Easy as pie and you won’t have to deal with the wait for a software unlock and risk of damaging your iPhone.

The StealthSIM SE currently it retails for $99 and may come as pricey to some of you. However if you desperately need your iPhone 3G unlocked, this easy and painless solution could be priceless in the long run! Click here to visit the StealthSIM SE website.

So if I were to go somewhere and buy a SIM card…
Does that mean I have to get a plan?
I’m not used to the whole SIM idea. haha.

    Danny,
Ok so this is not a sim card. This is a sim card adapter. You cut part of your sim and attach it to the StealthSim. Then you insert into your iPhone 3G. The iPhone is tricked into thinking that your non-rogers/fido sim is really a rogers/fido sim. This is useful for traveling as iPhoneFan has stated. So back to your original question – It depends with which carrier, in canada only Rogers and Fido are GSM (meaning they support sim cards) but the easy answer is yes, you would need a plan of some sort, whether it be prepaid or month-month. For more information I suggest posting in the forums.

I am going to Mexico soon. I do not plan on using my 3G iphone to talk, only play a movie on the flight and listen to some tunes on the beach. If I put my iphone in airplane mode, will this stop the iphome from roaming and from useing data? I dont want to pay all those crazy charges?

Regarding SIM card unlocking systems, the iPhone dev team says:

Over at the hackint0sh forums we’ve been monitoring the whole “SIM-card unlock” system, these involve a chip that is attached to your SIM card (with a small modification to your SIM) or sometimes a small PCB soldered inside the phone, these are very very very questionable things to use, they use trickery of the GSM and UMTS network which is considered highly illegal in most countries and they rely on sending bogus IMSIs and various other nasty hacks to obtain service on your iPhone. A couple of our members have written something about how this “works” we’ll try to publish more findings soon. DevTeam recommendation: Steer clear, don’t use.

Just thought I’d put that out there in case people needed another idea of which method to use.

does your product only work for unlocking FIDO/Rogers iPhone? or it also works for T-Mobile and other carriers?

does your product only work for unlocking FIDO/Rogers iPhone? or it also works for T-Mobile and other carriers?

  • It will unlock for any carrier:

This is the only product that will allow you to unlock ALL releases of the iPhone including the ALL NEW 2.0 software 3G iPhones! Our product is compatible with over 100 GSM iPhones including ORANGE, VIRGIN Mobile, O2, Fido, Rogers, T-Mobile, AT&T, Vodaphone and much more.

This is by far the safest solution since the StealthSIM requires no modification to the firmware on your iPhone. We do not make any changes at all to your firmware. This makes StealthSIM the SAFEST way to unlock your iPhone.

Modifying the firmware on your iPhone could void your warranty and is the most common cause of damage to the iPhone. Attempts to modify the firmware on your iPhone could trigger security mechanisms which can render your phone useless. Furthermore, even if your iPhone works initially, future updates could render the phone inoperable or brick your iPhone.

With StealthSIM, you can take advantage of your warranty by simply restoring your phone’s firmware with iTunes and following Apple’s warranty policy.

Yes you can use a locked iphone 3G for Rogers and Fido.

    For Tiffany:
Isn’t it worth it to 99.99 and not damage the iphone plus not to signup to a 3 year deal ?

    For iphone the solution:
We have to sign 3 year contract anyway or pay $400 cancellation fee. I only need to unlock it so I can use the local sim card when I travel abroad. The final price after S+H is about $140. To me, it is expensive 🙁

  • Why would you need a 3 year plan. You buy the iphone without a contract and then get the stealthsim and you are ready to rock. It would be alot cheaper to you this way then with the 3 year contract. Just go to craiglist and you will find an iphone 3g.

just got the sim card from you. it doesn’t fit! I trim off the corner, but the whole setup is too thick and it doesn’t slide into the phone.

Ordered 5 StealthSim SE from iPhoneStealth.ca. IT DOESN’T WORK. None of the 5 Sim worked to unlock my 3G iphone.

    1. Fitting into the 3G iphone is a time consuming process. You need to trim the top corner and sand down the profile of your SIM card; and you still run into the risks of jaming your SIM card in your iphone

    2. Out of the 5 SIM cards I received, only 1 successfully registered. There were a pop up screen showing StealthSim s/n and the phone was unlocked for a BRIEF moment. The signal dropped after about 3 minutes of usage and then you will need to restart your iphone. The restarting process will only work aboutn 2 out of 10 times.

NOT WORTH YOUR MONEY AT ALL!

I know there are some success stories of StealthSIM SE posting, but in my opinion. This product is a total scam!

  • How could you call it a total scam, just return thenm to iphonestealth.ca and make them send you the right fit and working one’s. With the new stealthsim, you shouldn’t even have to cut your sim card. Maybe if you bought it from http://www.iphonethesolution.com then you wouldn’t have these issues. Just my 2 cents.
