Official Spotify Apple Watch App Coming Soon Says Developer

An official Spotify app for Apple Watch is coming, as third party developer Andrew Chang has announced on Reddit. His vision for a Spotify Apple Watch app called ‘Spotty’, which was eventually renamed ‘Snowy’, has impressed the streaming music service that they will now partner together:

Hi all, thanks for your patience and understanding. I’m thrilled to announce that I’ll be working closely with Spotify to bring Snowy to the Apple Watch as part of an official Spotify iOS app. Spotify’s powerful iOS SDK made it possible to develop Snowy, but I can’t wait to take things to the next level with the expertise and tools available at Spotify. While I can’t give any estimates as to when it’ll be available, you can rest assured that a Spotify Apple Watch companion app is in the pipeline.

Based on Snowy’s website, the Apple Watch app will require Spotify Premium, and allow users to see playback progress and control music from a personalized watch face. Siri will also enable users to control music workouts, while hands-free gestures will allow skipping or pausing music with “a flick of the wrist.”

Sweden-based Spotify saw the potential of Chang’s app and embraced it, which means Apple Watch owners who use the streaming music service can look forward to controls from the wrist, coming soon.
