Update on Unlocking 1.1.2 iPhones for Canada

Invisible Shield for iPhone

If you haven’t been keeping track of the iPhone Status Document, you should! It is a source that is constantly updated to reflect the various unlocks available for each version of iPhone firmware out there. I’ve received numerous emails from readers asking about when the 1.1.2 unlock will be released. Today, the following updated was posted (enjoy the orange colored font, hehe):

As of December 27, 2007 it is NOT YET POSSIBLE to unlock Out-of-box 1.1.2 iPhones from USA or Europe yet. We are waiting for Apple to release the next firmware update (possibly 1.1.3) to get a new hardware access key that will allow us to write the modified bootloader into the phone’s memory.

The iPhone hackers are working hard on the new unlock and as far as I know they have already found the right places to modify in the bootloader to unlock the phone. Just as I said before: we are waiting for Apple to release a new firmware update before the unlock can be  released to the broad public.

So there you have it. New iPhones with firmware 1.1.2 new OTB (out of the box) cannot be unlocked just quite yet. So if you have your iPhone in Canada with 1.1.2 firmware, you’re going to have to wait, or try the TurboSIM method to unlock your iPhone.
