Flash Confirmed For the iPhone: Adobe CEO

One of the biggest stories on the weekend was the confirmation of Adobe’s Flash for the iPhone, leaked by Adobe CEO, Shantanu Narayen. Adobe’s Flash software is what powers many video sites have use the technology to display videos, animated games, etc.

Adobe’s Flash is a the missing piece that would improve on mobile Safari’s already existing dominance. Just imagine the plethora of other websites you could visit and have them display properly on your iPhone!

The following quote was spoken during a Bloomberg Television interview from the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland:

“It’s a hard technical challenge, and that’s part of the reason Apple and Adobe are collaborating,” Narayen told Bloomberg Television. “The ball is in our court. The onus is on us to deliver.”

So, there you have it. Cold, hard evidence spoken right from the source that Adobe is working on a Flash solution for the iPhone. Previously, Steve Jobs mentioned how Flash was too slow for the iPhone and the “Flash Lite” version couldn’t be used properly for the web.

The question remains though, will Flash work on current iPhones through a firmware update, or do you think it will arrive on the next generation iPhone with upgraded hardware specs?

Well, given that we already have flash video through jailbroken iPhones, it’s not surprising.

I get the strong feeling that apple was holding out to release their own flash-like system, and only agreed to allow adobe to develop a proper flash plugin to prevent even more iPhone users from looking at jailbreaking as mandatory to get a full web experience.

The timing is certainly suspicious: imovilecinema has only recently become stable and reliable.

They may be collaborating to bring Flash to the next iPhone. How do we know we will be seeing Flash on our current iPhones?

I think it’s a trick lol

I would personally like to see Flash before Copy, Cut and Paste.
But both would be great!

if any of you guys have jailbroken iphones out there there is an app in cydia called Clippy, which does global copy and paste in most text fields and lets you copy txt msgs by just double tapping on them, works great. When you go to the symbols on your keyboard a little bar pops up above your keyboard and has copy/paste/stack/close… with the stack you can have more than one thing copied and you can keep it forever (or maybe just till you restart your phone im not sure)…. another one that i tried out was hClipboard.. it was alright, it changed the 123 of the keyboard into 2 buttons, one which switched to a little bit of an awkward keyboard layout but it had copy and paste functions and things like copy from here, there both definatly worth a check into.. personally i like Clippy better..

If you keep on reading to the last paragraph, its said that they are working on bringing flash to the iPhone, and that adobe and apple have started working together to figure out how to put it in. just dont expect it any time soon.

Im hopping they dont restrict this to a brand new iPhone, but looking at the time of year, im guessing it will be part of the release of a brand new iphone. probably it will be one of the main points of 3.0, and will come stock with all 3rd gen iPhones, and all other gens will be able to upgrade.

Imobilecinema – google it to get their cydia repository. Only plays flash video, not interactive ( like games) but it works very well.
