Rogers iPhone 3G Price Protection Policy
If you just recently purchased a 16GB iPhone 3G from Rogers Wireless and want to return it for the cheaper price or have just purchased an 8GB iPhone 3G and want the now cheaper 16GB iPhone 3G or have purchased either iPhone 3G and just want to return it, then this information is for you.

Effective June 9, 2009, Rogers has rolled out a price protection policy for the purchases of the iPhone 3G.
Scenario #1
You just bought a 16GB iPhone 3G for $299/$349 on or within May 25, 2009 and June 8, 2009 and since June 9, 2009, the 16GB iPhone 3G price is $179/$229. You want your money back.
Solution #1
As long as your purchase was on or within the dates of May 25, 2009 and June 8, 2009, head back to the point of purchase with all of your paperwork and your money (the difference owed) will be refunded to you. Ofcourse there will be a small process involved, but in the end, you will get the difference owed to you.
Scenario #2
You just bought an 8GB iPhone 3G for $199/$249, but now you want the 16GB iPhone 3G which is priced at $179/$229.
Solution #2 (Buyers Preference)
As long as it has been 30 days or less since the sales invoice period, there is 30 minutes or less on the device, you have the original 8GB iPhone 3G box with all accessories, and everything is in perfect or near perfect condition, you may head back to the point of purchase with all of your paperwork. Your money (the difference owed) will be refunded to you and device swapped out for a 16GB iPhone 3G. Ofcourse there will be a small process involved, but in the end, you will get the difference owed to you and the new device.
If you have more than 30 minutes on the device, you cannot return it.
If it has been more than 30 days since the sales invoice period, you cannot return it.
If there is damage anywhere on the device, you cannot return it.
If you do not have the device box and all accessories, you cannot return it.
Scenario #3
You just bought either an 8GB or 16GB iPhone 3G and want to return it.
Solution #3 (Buyers Remorse)
As long as it has been 30 days or less since the sales invoice period, there is 30 minutes or less on the device, you have the original iPhone 3G box with all accessories, and everything is in perfect or near perfect condition, you may head back to the point of purchase with all of your paperwork and get a full refund.
If you have more than 30 minutes on the device, you cannot return it.
If it has been more than 30 days since the sales invoice period, you cannot return it.
If there is damage anywhere on the device, you cannot return it.
If you do not have the device box and all accessories, you cannot return it.

Oh man i bought my iphone on the 25 of may!!!! if they say u can get ur money back can u get the 3gs?
You dont get your money back, you only receive the difference.
Sorry.
Oh ok cant return it has money then 30 min on it i think lol but i can get a 16 gig though
Ok just called the rogers store where i bought it the guy told me has to have less then 30 minutes. Ill call customer service
Well now another customer service says they wont have more information about this until the 12th. Told me the minutes have nothing to do with it only 30 days. So i made him write in my account i was told that in other to make a return it has to be before the 30 days period. Cause the 16 gig 3gs is 199 anyway to.. Anyway ill have to wait
I’m confused…Rogers.ca says NOTHING about a $99 iPhone. It says starting at $199
My post doesnt say $99 iPhone.
The $99 iPhone will be available on June 19 along side the 3G “S”
Most of the time, people are unaware of the 30 minutes requirement. It is so easy to go over 30 minutes and once you do, say good bye to your chances of a full refund.
Reinstall the firmware that came with it. It’ll say last reset is never and you’ll have less than 30 minutes 😉
Yeah but they can look in your account to see how many minutes u used no?
Simply, yes…
Nice try, but that is not how your minutes are checked.
Your minutes are checked from your account.
Yes, However, you could simply state that you were using your old phone at the time.
What about Fido? Will they have a $99 iPhone and when?
Yes, they already have on their website “refreshed” iPhones for:
iPhone 3G 16 GB: $99
iPhone 3G 8GB: $149
Don’t ask me why they’re different, probably they have way more 16 GB than 8GB.

For those of you seeking the price protection, CALL immediately. Apparently, you have 15 days from date of purchase to claim the price protection.
Well apparently you’re supposed to go in store, especially if you want a replacement and then they call from there. But then again, calling direct wont hurt either.
that’s a refreshed one, but what about new iPhones? Also, how strange, if you are a customer already the price is higher even if you sign a contract.
New iPhone 3G are:
8GB $199 —> Moving to $99 on June 19, 2009
16GB $179
thank you!
Nice to see some kindness from robbers for recent iPhone buyers lol
How can they track your minutes anyway other than whats on ur account? what if i have two phones one unlocked and i have been using that one for voice and iphone for internet use. do they track the minutes u used by the serial # of ur phone or what?
@Kevin,
it doesn’t matter. Rogers will take the SIM card usage and base it on that. So if you use your SIM in another phone for 31 minutes, cannot return the iPhone 3G.
it’s your word against theirs. They don’t know which phone you used.
@Phay,
Same response as to Kevin
I bought an 8GB iPhone on June 1st. I just called Rogers to confirm the price protection policy and their customer service (after about 20 minutes) told me that they have no such policy. I am beyond the 30 minute line, so returning the phone isn’t an option. Is there any documentation from Rogers about this price protection policy that I can point them to? I went to the store where I bought the phone yesterday and the guy said there is nothing he can do and to come back after the 3Gs releases and try my luck again. Advice?
Well you won’t be able to return because you’re both over 30 minutes and 30 days.
If you want to teach the Rogers rep, tell him/her to review their sales bulletins posted yesterday afternoon.
I’m certainly not over the 30 days, but I am over the 30 minutes (unless that response was meant for someone else). So “sales bulletin” is the magic word. I’ll try that. I don’t suppose the sales bulletin is publicly available…
Thanks for the advice.
Sorry Sean, you’re right. You’re not over 30 days. I thought you said “May 1”. Oops!
As for the bulletin, it’s not public but I could easily post it here. I’ll post it later today.
I read on the Rogers website that if you were UNDER the 30 days but OVER the 30 minutes, they would charge you for the minutes over, but you would still be able to return the device and cancel the contract (the more roundabout way to deal with it…) Isn’t this correct? I wish Rogers would have a more clear description of their policies. I’ve had to scour the internet left and right. I bought a 16 GB iPhone on May 23rd and that price difference is HUGE!
Dave, can you point us to the Rogers website where you found this information? Thanks.
When i called the first guy told me its 60 min then the other guy told me its 30 days there is no minutes so i dont know

I think it relates to their online store, but the policies should be the same…
I just Called CUstomer Relations, and he said “Your right, there is a price plan in place” but its the first he had heard about it , so he is crediting $100 to my account
My senario was i bought a 16Gb 3G Iphone few days ago “Sunday” and then i read this, I directed him to this website, and he read it, and is doing the work now.
So I do confirm this worked for me. using Senario #1
For those of you talking about suggested wasys to hide your minute usage to be under 30 minutes for the price deal, the company will have complete records of minutes of use of the SIM card and what handset the card was in at the time. Every GSM phone in the world is equipped with an IMEI [International Mobile Equipment Identity] number which is included along with thje SIM info every time you use the phone. Saying you used the SIM in another phone can easily be disproven by Rogers.

i just boughtthe 16gb iphone on june 4th only to find out the new one was coming so soon, clearly im over the 30 mins but not the over the 30 days i would enjoy to just have the new one coming out…so confused am i able to return it??? and get the new one???
If you are over 30minutes, you’re stuck with it.
However, you still qualify for the refund.
Well monty was right
I got scenario #1 for my 8 gig. Wasted 30 min with customer service
I bought an 8-gb iphone from the Fido store at the Eaton center (Toronto) on May 4. Do you think that I have a chance to either get the difference or replace it with a new one with a reasonable amount of additional cost?
No its past your 30 days and most likely your 30 minutes
This is unacceptable. 30 minutes is not enough to realize that the battery life of this device is weak. I purchased a 16gig 3GS iphone last friday and I'm very disappointed with the battery life. I have to charge it at least once daily even tough I don't use often internet or any other application.
Very very disappointed,
