iPhone 3GS Unboxing Pictures: It Looks…THE SAME!

The iPhone 3GS launch in Canada won’t take place until one week from today on June 19th. Two days prior, iPhone OS 3.0 will be available for download. If you are an eager beaver and can’t wait until next Friday, today you will get to check out some leaked iPhone 3GS unboxing pics.

These pictures are courtesy of Engadget China, where somebody there got their grubby paws on an iPhone 3GS. As you can see from the pictures, the design looks amazing…errr…wait a minute, it looks exactly like the 3G! That’s because Apple did not bother updating the iPhone’s form factor.

Although some people are disappointed, I think the decision to keep the same design was a good one. With falling prices on all components, this has allowed Apple to retain their same pricing structure (and make more profit), plus allow for a $99 iPhone 3G!

ZAGG invisibleSHIELD Will Fit the iPhone 3GS

In that one pic of the naked iPhone back, I cringed as I would immediately slap on an invisibleSHIELD if that was my iPhone 3GS. Luckily for us, the invisibleSHIELD design hasn’t changed so that means lots of stock is still in store. Don’t forget to use “iphoneinca” for 20% off! Click here to visit ZAGG.com

Here are the pics:

One week away from iPhone 3GS goodness. For those that are going to be buying an iPhone, this will be one long week to count down the days. Good thing iPhone OS 3.0 is dropping on the 17th to keep us busy in the meantime!

How soon after 3.0 release do you think we’ll see a jailbreak. The video rec is really the feature that really draws me to the 3gs. And the ability to upload. But I think the jailbreak will take care of that 4 me.

Its hard to say… Depends on how fast Dev Team/Hackers can work to jailbreak the iPhone or if Apple made it harder. I’d say a couple days! lol They already have an unofficial jailbreak on the BETA 5, so the official release shouldn’t be much harder….? Def less then a week but who knows, could be a month or more! Lets hope its ASAP 😛 Now for unlock…., different story there. Maybe were in for a surprise from the Dev Team/Hackers? hehe
Keep checking back and well have news posted once jailbreaked!
Check the forums too (If they were working…?) about news/rumors!

Keeping the same design means the various protective cases I bought [first a gel, then an Otterbox] will still fit. So I’m saving something… Of course the upgrade will be $299 plus $55/month increase. LOL
A small saving on accessories makes me feel a little better!

I was looking at these last night and was like huh? Looks exactly the same to me! Im just more interested in whats under the case! 😛 From the specs, it’s faster…. but is it worth an arm and leg to buy/upgrade from iPhone 3G?
It does help out with everyone that already purchased a case for an iPhone 3G and hopefully everything like accessories will still work with iPhone 3GS.

I for one do not think it is worth an arm and a leg. Not much of an upgrade over the 3G in my opinion. I would get it if it was offered at the promotional rate. After all Rogers unilaterally changed the upgrade period to 2 years about 3 months ago – a legal and an unethical move because I never signed up for the March 2009 Updated Agreement.

Listen, i agree with dude here
Apple has a history of releasing products within the year with spiffy new features and whatnot to get by. The whole ipod saga is just an example, from a simple device to nano, nano w video, shuffle, shuffle 2, video, next generation, touch, etc etc. It’s what you get for in apple. Yes if you actively need tethering or video capture then maybe it’s your device. But for the cost, i’m not entirely sure it’s worth it at all, considering we may be back in the same boat a year or so later.

Rogers Could make so much more if they just started thinking about how they could make exsisting customers happier. I called to look at upgrade in plans and they wanted to screw me big time. New 3 year term at almost double of what I am paying.

To buy out the contract will cost about 400 which is still a lot less then what they could be making if they were really interested in retaining customers.

I find the 3Gs a Joke. if you go on the Rogers website they list all the new features it has. Then if you watch the Apple Meeting in March advertising then 3.0 update 80% of the new stuff they tell this new phone is going to have to make it look so good, Just about Everything they show is comming with 3.0 for ALL iphones even the Old 2G ones. The only thing 3Gs has is the Ability to have 32Gb , apparently Slightly faster Internet (which normal 3G is also capible if you read the box) and upgraded Camera

My jailbroken 3G iphone can copy/paste, has a compass, has search and everything. They are Listing Features of the 3.0 OS to make the new Iphone look better >.>… yet when 3.0 is released, all iphone will have these features.

I call that Dirty marketing, taking advantage of those Less experienced in researching their electronics and thinging they are getting a wicked deal.

Granted the new 3Gs has 2 new features 3MP camera instead of 2MP. upgrade to 32Gb, thats it, Everything else is from 3.0OS update

I’m buying the 3GS not because I want all the cool “new” features, but because I want 16GB of storage… IMHO, just this fact’s a good reason to buy one instead of the 8GB iPhone.

Fido: 25$/100 min. Voice plan + 30$/6GB data plan + 10$/(VVM, caller ID) = 65$ no system access fee = me being happy!!

Am I going to pay 250$ for the iPhone because my voice plan isn’t 30$ or higher?

Inv

Nope, its if you have a voice plan under $30.01 and don’t have data.
I think I’m getting the same plan as you, except without VVM, and CID, and I’m getting Skype’s $3 plan.

Skype still works on 3G if you use the old one right? or jailbreak or something?

If I can’t get skype I might have to go with a My5 plan. same $25 a month, but since its Rogers there is the system access fee. Ugh

What if I get the 30$ 6go plan and nothing else?
Then I just pay with a prepaid card (or skype or w-e)
Is that going to be okay with Fido and Rogers?

Another question:
If I buy from Fido, will I be connected to Rogers network or Fido network? Because Rogers is the fastest?

Please be clear in your answer and thank you in advance!!!

The 3G is good enough for me except more memory and the faster processor.

I’ll be getting the 32GB 3G S. I have a 1st gen iPhone “Edge”, and I’m ready for 3G speeds. Also, I can really use the 32GB. I treat my device as an iPod, with a phone in it; not a smartphone that plays music. The 600 mhz processor and the 256 mb of RAM will be sweet. I’m glad I skipped the 3G, and held out for this one. But, of course, next year’s, iPhone “4G”, will be wanted by all, and we’ll all be pissed at Rogers again.

I do feel for all you 3G owners, though. Hope you folks can upgrade, (those who want to, anyway).

For Us who cant upgrade, what i normally do is Buy out the new phone without contract, swap out with my old phone, Sell on craigslist or Ebay or somthing, when everything is said and done, i normally end up paying $200 for the upgrade without a contract or Tax heh i do this almost yearly so when it comes time to sell my current phone, its still pretty popular

I understand everyones gripe about rogers change in HUP to 24 months.
i dont agree and i know ppl will flame me for this but understand why this is.
I have good info that rogers pays a huge premium for the iphone.
its not like they want to charge the big $$$ but they pay so much for the phone that they do not make back the $$$ on the phone until way after 1 year on a contract.

they also know ppl will not just leave since they are on contract for 2 plus years more if they have the original iphone and after they make up the diff they gave a discount for thats when they will be able to allow for the $199-299 price.

i know ppl who work for both Rogers and apple and in the end its not feasable for them to offer the 3gs to current iphone owners only being on the contract that they sighned from last july of the iphone.

if you notice other phones 1 year is al you need since those phones are much cheaper.

remember the iphone is not only HDW…rogers pays apple for hdw and plan.

so if you feel ripped off its not rogers trying to rip you off..its more an apple thing!!

Everyone is misunderstanding the differences.

The software differences are the same with the exception of the digital compass and a video recorder (which can be downloaded once the 3G is jailbroken).

The comparison needs to be made in the hardware.

The iphone 3GS boasts a longer battery life, a faster CPU @ 600MHZ, RAM upgrade to 256MB, faster 3G service…I believe it enables 7.2Mbps HSDPA, and a 3.0 megapixel autofocus with macro mode and auto white balance camera as oppossed to a 2.0 megapixel camera.

These are the major differences in specs as per:
