WIND Mobile, or as many more know them as Globalive, is the wireless carrier in Canada that never was. Globalive (WIND Mobile) was going to be one of the new Canadian wireless carriers that seemed to bring hope to consumers of the wireless landscape in Canada. Unfortunately, they were recently rejected by the CRTC.
So as it stands, Globalive is on a permanent vacation.
In a rare look, Globalive has updated their Facebook page giving us a peek at what the WIND Mobile stores look like. On a first look, the stores look a lot like an Apple Store. The landscape is very clean with white walls and the stores aimed to deliver a complete digital experience for customers by eliminating barriers with customers such as cash desks.
You can see cut-outs for where phone panels would be on the table and cut-outs in the walls for what may be interactive panels. The store is drastically different from Telus, Bell, Rogers or Fido stores and is very boutique-like.
While there is still hope for Globalive to become a wireless carrier in Canada, at this point we can only look at what was the dream:

Will they or won't they exist in the future based on the CRTC's decision? Will the store exist or will it be torn down?
At present Globalive is thinking how it can get around Canadian ownership rules, it's bought the spectrum, and installed towers, I can't see it giving up without a wee bit of a fight.
Hopefully the CRTC won't demand the spectrum back and sell it to Bell/Telus & Rogers.
I wouldn't give up on them yet 🙂
While I welcome competition in the wireless industry, I will never subscribe to a company owned bt Egyptians. I'd rather have my money stay in Canada, hence I will stick with Rogers. By the way, Globalive knew very well they were not satisfying the Canadian ownership regulation when they bid on the wireless spectrum, but they went ahead. They are now opening stores; in the building where I work, in downtown Toronto, they are currently renovation a store. They have employed 800 people, paid them and asked them to volunteer for charities until the ownership issue is sorted out. What they are doing is effectively twisting the Government's arm in a very dirty, Egyptian style tactic. So disgusting!

Considering it passed gov't inspection in the first place, I have a feeling that Industry Canada is going to over-rule the CRTC and give them the go-ahead. I wouldn't count them out yet.
As a daily visitor to this site I find both the comment from Michael and the “Love it!” reply from X1 Zero appalling. Not only did you not reprimand the commenter, nor ignore him, you encouraged him. Obviously plenty of readers would disagree with me here, but I'm sure I'm not the only one turned off. You're hurting your brand.

Racist much? How much do you know about the companies you already do business with? I remember people giving me a hard time about drinking Starbucks, saying I should have been drinking Tim Horton's, without knowing that Wendy's in the U.S. owned most of the company. They'd end up selling their share, but still, goes to show that globalization is something most people don't know anything about. Shop at Walmart Michael? Look into how much of their product is made in China. If you do shop there, you're practically sending cash to the Chinese government. It makes you a hypocrite.

Wind Mobile met the Canadian ownership standards when reviewed by Industry Canada and were allowed to purchase their spectrum. The along came the CRTC that is obviously in the pocket of the incumbents and ruled that while Wind met the letter of the law and the objective measurement of Canadian ownership they had some subjective concerns. So the CRTC decision is currently being reviewed by the Industry Minister and hopefully the needs and benefits to Canadian taxpayers will preside over the BS from the big three current companies that want to do anything they can to prevent competition and the decision will be overturned.

Small Business owners are largely forgotten. Thats why I only focus on them. I have experience several members of my family file bankruptcy due to small business failures. I also I suffered through 2 destroyed businesses due to failure however, in my failings I have learned some of the secrets to success. (Who can say they know it all?)
