Metro launches Canada’s first Fully Bilingual News App for The iPhone

metroMetro News Canada has released Canada’s first bilingual iPhone app. This application is not only the first bilingual app but the ONLY one available in the AppStore that allows users to choose between an English or French interface providing news content in either language.

“Metro is quickly establishing itself as a leader in the mobile space and we’re the only daily newspaper publishing in both official languages, so it makes sense that we would be the ones to reach this milestone first,” said Jodi Brown, marketing and interactive director for Metro Canada.

Metro re-launched its mobile stratagies in September to feature a mobile-enabled website, apps for iPhone, BlackBerry and Windows mobile, and the ability to scan 2D barcodes on paper that will link to mobile content. This app offers news, entertainment and sports, while allowing readers to comment on stories, get their puzzle answers, and check movie showtimes. Movie trailers and news videos are featured on the mobile platform as well.

“Metro has always had the advantage of being able to reach busy people while they are on-the-go.
As we introduce new platforms and tools, we can make the Metro experience even more engaging and versatile, while simultaneously reinforcing the strength of our print brand.”

Spreed Inc, the developers, say to “keep your app updated as we will be constantly adding to our list of features”, which is something we all usually want to hear from an application. And to top it off it sounds like they have great customer service and really value your opinions. They ask for feedback on anything you think they can improve on. 🙂

For you news junkies, enjoy this app for FREE in the iTunes store.
